First, I thought long and hard about even posting this. I had every reason to keep it private until I saw WOUB was posting clips from the incident. Maybe Tim Burke or Harvey Levin would be proud, but I still have a minor twinge in my stomach about posting this.

Second, let me just recap what I saw, and then you can watch the video and decide for yourselves what to think. At around 2.30 left in the game, Cooper and Crawford get their technicals for jawing with each other and for minor shoves. In the WOUB video, you can see Crawford take the last shot at DJ as they both walk away and continue to jaw with each other. Coop heads to the huddle and Coach Wu stands just outside the huddle while Lamonta Stone stands outside the BG huddle yelling at DJ and the Refs. At some point words are exchanged and the two start to get in each other's face resulting in a double technical on the Assistants.

Here's where it gets a little queasy for me. Immediately after the Double T, Coach Stone goes over to the BG bench and takes charge of the huddle. Coach Orr is just standing to the side while Coach Stone yelling at his team in very animated fashion. Down 13 with 2 minutes left, seems a very odd time for an Assistant Coach to be going crazy in the huddle, much less leading the huddle.

After BG breaks the huddle, immediately there is a hard foul on DJ by Chauncey Orr. Couple FT's, BG Possession, and then Cooper is fouled hard again by Kraus.

I am merely speculating (only my opinion) that the BG players were told to foul DJ and foul him with some authority. Maybe nothing dirty, but I'm very glad Christian got DJ out of the game immediately following the Kraus foul, so as not to risk injury to our best player.

The game resumes and Coach Orr signals to stop fouling. However, Coach Stone is STARING daggers at Coach Wu for the last minutes of the game and kind of talking to him from across the benches. I lean over to Mrs. LOVE and tell her the postgame handshake line is going to be interesting. She tells me to get my phone ready. Prophetic.

Now, you can watch the video and take it from here. In my opinion:

Good guys: The players. The kids on both sides acted with strong maturity. Most were just concerned about telling the other team Good Game.

Good guys: Christian and Orr. Trying hard to keep tempers at bay.  Could have gotten real ugly if they wouldn't have stepped in.

Bad guys: Coach Stone. Was going to have words (and maybe more) with Coach Wu no matter the cost. He had laser vision for the last 5 minutes to hunt him down.

Bad guys: One of our Managers, Grad Asst's, or somebody like that wearing black. Seems to get in the middle of the fray with no real reason, says a few words, and maybe even gets shoved.

Bad guys: Smaller BG Assistant in Suit/Tie with chinstrap beard. May have shoved our Manager, and definitely had words with some people. Not sure why he even figured in, as he was way off to the side when the commotion started.

Again, just my thoughts and opinions. I don't think there's enough there for discipline, but it was certainly a weird, weird scene after the game. I had heard some speculation on Dennis Hopson, but it didn't appear to me that he was part of the mischief. The biggest offenders for BG were definitely Stone and Chinstrap.

Wondered why Orr wasn't trying to extend the game when they were down by only three possessions with 45 seconds  to go.  Guess he wanted to keep it from getting any chippier.

I agree with your (hypothetical) assessment of that time out and the assistant yelling at the team.  I told the folks I was sitting with that there would be some hard fouls coming right after that time out because I also guessed that this assistant was encouraging it.  

I stated in another post that I like the fact that Stevie has been able to come in at the end of many games to keep DJ from perhaps getting injured by a hard foul.  Yesterday, I think it was critical that it happened.

I can add to the discussion I believe.  The little coach(no chinstrap), the one that Orr ushered off the floor 1st in Love's video seemed to be the main culprit.  I stuck around as the grandkids got their picture with Rufus on the floor.  I had stayed above the lower bowl and had wandered around behind press row watching the kids on the floor.  There was that same coach(could have been Stone for all I know) jawing with JC who was standing behind Russ to get on the radio.  He kept whining to JC about "his" program disrespecting him.  He indicated the players, coaches, ozone, band, etc. were all part of disrespecting him and their program.  They must have shook hands 3 times the short bit I was there.  Each time the BG coach would just begin again.  Finally Russ told JC they needed him on the radio and it ended.  The BG coach went on down to get on the BG radio.  My guess is it will be nasty in BG!  If we think we got hard fouls yesterday, the worst is yet to come.  I've been to BG many times including last yr.  I said I was never going back because we can't win there(at least w's are few and far between).  I think I will stick to my guns and not spend the money.

Coincidentally or not, Kraus gave the foul on DJ at the 2:24 mark (right after the Techs were given at 2:32). Although I didn't see it as anything harder than someone trying to give a foul. Christian did the smart thing and subbed for DJ as soon as he made the free throws.

Russ tried to question Christian in the postgame about the kerfluffle but Christian downplayed it commenting that he and Orr have been friends for 25 years and that he has great respect for Orr and his program.

I was at the game and was screaming about the extra shove way after the whistle -- CLEARLY deserving of a technical.  I did not think the ensuing fouls on DJ were especially hard or dirty.  Love's video shows the BG coach was the problem in the line, the BG player behind him is the first to grab him after hearing whatever it is he's saying (Love, can't the wife carry one of those little umbrella-like super mics in her bag?).

I turned to my son and said that DJ had gotten into a number of heads again, he is the master.

This game also makes me want to be in BG on March 2nd.

Yes, it was the 1st half when DJ, faked throwing the ball at the kids face.  That was a real act of class.

Coach Orr did a good job defusing the situation.  Looked like he was prepared for a potential problem and jumped right in with his son to take care of it.  The Orr family stepped up
