2 questions:

1)  Who votes for this award?

2)  Does it take into account the entire season?  Or just the MAC portion of the schedule?

1) Elton Alexander and Jeremy Guy

2) Only the MAC games that feature Akron, Kent, Miami, BG, Toledo and WMU.

I get you're being sarcastic, but Elton seems to be thinking D.J.'s POY frontrunner :

Elton wrote:expand_more
While he is averaging 9.8 points a game on the season, he delivered a season-high 21 points and nine assists in the Zips’ biggest win of the season — an 86-72 win Feb. 2 over Ohio and likely MAC Player of the Year D.J. Cooper.

That doesn't tell me he's voting for DJ. That tells me who he thinks is going to win.

If DJ does not get the award, the whole thing is a sham.  There are some other nice players in the MAC, but none are as complete on both ends of the floor as Cooper is.  Hopefully, those that vote pay more attention to MAC basketball than the collective fanbases of the conference schools.

The term stat-sheet-stuffer was invented for guys like DJ.

Members of the media vote for the POTY. I don't know specifically who or how many voters there are though.

If DJ does not win this award, I say we all grab our pitchforks and torches and form an angry mob.

I'm feelin' the NE Ohio bias via a tremor in the force.  I've felt that presence before. This is how I felt when Leon wasn't MAC POY as a senior.  I'm preparing myself to feel that way again in case the big tall guy from 'kron (unjustly) gets the award.

I'll give Zeke credit for being good, but he's not GREAT in the way that DJ is.  I even think that Zeke isn't the most important player in his own team. I'd give that nod to Treadwell.

D.J. is the best player in the MAC, but there is no guarrantee that he will win the award.  Northern Ohio area has more swing than we have down here in the hills.  My hope is that voters may split some votes between Marshall, Treadwell and Arebeu, and D.J. could slip in there !

I'd vote for Chris Evans before I'd vote for any of those three guys for POY.

I don't think Abreu is going to get any consideration but I think there will be some split between Marshall and Treadwell, which will definitely help D.J.

As much as I deeply do not care for the guy, I think I'd agree with you.  He's a great player, blend of size and athletecism with the ability to beat you down low or at the 3-point arc.  I knew he had a good game here at the Convo this year but did not realize he ended up with an 18-14 line.  I'm not sad we will not be seeing him back in the Convo again.

Chris Evans appeared to be having fun playing that last game here ... he was practically carrying on a conversation with some of the fans in the black seats.

I'll supply the pitchforks.  I have a discount card at Pitchfork City!

I can think of few things I care less about than Player of the Year awards. And that goes for any level of sport. I know it's something that makes talk radio telephone lines light up, but I just can't work up ANY bile about them. I can't name a single MAC Player of the Year other than Gary Trent and Wally Szczerbiak. I can't even remember who won it last year.

Seems to me by the end of the NCAA tournament last year, we all knew who was the best player in the conference. No one needs Elton Alexander's stamp of approval.

One exception: Peer-voted awards have any merit in my mind. I'd love if every player in the MAC got to vote on who the POY was. Then it'd be a worthwhile award.
