Ohio is 11-1 in MAC play, coming off one of the best post season runs in the history of the conference, with high expectations for March. Akron is 12-0 in the MAC, on the cusp of being ranked, and is beginning to attract national media attention.

Is this the biggest conference game in MAC history?

I don't know how this will top the classic Western Michigan vs Cincinnati in 1950, but its close.

Won't top Oho-BG 1970 either.  Last game of the season for all the marbles.  Largest crowd in the history of the Convo (14,000+ SRO).  The fire marshal said that they'd never allow that many people in the Convo again, so that's a record that'll never be eclipsed.  13,030 is the official capacity.   Also, there were games in the 1960s when BG had guys like Nate Thurmond and Howard Komives and WMU had Manny Newsome.  One year I remember Manny and Howard were fighting each other all year for the #1 high scorer position.  It seesawed back and forth.   The Akron game is a big game, though.  I don't want to underestimate it.  GO OHIO!

I can't name specifics but the MAC Tournament has only been around since around 1980 so there were a ton of games of bigger significance prior to that when the regular season champion received the autobid.  This game may or may not have some impact on an at-large bid but the two have all but secured the top two seeds.  It's obviously a huge game for both but I would have to say it probably isn't even close to being the biggest ever.

I guess I should have said recent history, like you know, the last 40-50 years.

Hey, 1970 is less that 50 years ago!

i was in the rafters for the 1970 BG game - it was crazy loud, crazy nuts. the players were itty bitty little ants on the court i was so far away.  but i was there. it was awesome. sold me on Ohio that day.  never wanted to go anywhere else.

I got into the Convo before the gates opened as Dad was a coach.  Sat three rows behind the bench and watched the Convo fill for the only time in history.  It was insane and of course WE won~
