Any question that his number gets retired, or is it a matter of when?

Like many, I feel so fortunate to have been able to witness the basketball legend of Ohio, D.J. Cooper. And for many, many years to come he will be revered as one of the greatest basketball players to have ever put on the green and white. The amazing things he has done on the court have made this a great time to be a Bobcat men's basketball fan.
One of the things that makes D.J. such a great player is his vision and ability to see what others just can't.  I like to think that's one of the reasons that brought him to Ohio. He, like many of us, saw something in Ohio that not everyone sees, but those that do, get to be a part of something special here in Athens.
Thank you so much D.J. and, keep on keeping on!
Go Bobcats!
Brian

P.S. I'm saving my props for Ivo, Walt and Reg for later... Sorry fellas!

Should be a matter of when in my opinion.  Best player hands down since Trent, so why not?  I wouldn't mind it if they hung a few more jerseys up there BTW - Brandon Hunter as one example.

The obvious caveat is that he would have to graduate.   If he does then it's a no-brainer.

His and the others' Senior Night game should sell out. I don't care what else is going on that night. Each and every one of those 20,000 students have been touched by this basketball team in some way. Get to the Convo against Miami please. I know I'm making the trip over from Cincinnati to do so. It's worth it to see this group play at home one more time.

DJ has been my favorite player to watch since he stepped on campus. Maybe it's because I was a PG in high school. Maybe it's because I also wore the number '5' on my jersey. I don't know. The fact of the matter is, we might NEVER see another player like this in Ohio history. People were probably saying the same thing back when Trent left too.

Thanks, DJ. You've turned me into a child again.

P.S. Favorite DJ moments of all time?

-Both of mine come from the Georgetown game. Both exemplify is court vision. Of course, one is the behind-the-head lob to Devaughn for the slam which was replayed over and over and over and over. That was a signature moment. The other was actually a turnover in the first half. He tried to throw a lob pass to Devaughn down low, but it was either just a bit off or Devaughn didn't time it right, and it went out of bounds. The fact that DJ even attempted it and saw that Devaughn had just enough room to score was incredible to me. Even more, he had the guts to throw it.

There are so many but two of mine both came in the USF game last year.

1.  In the first half  USF has just taken their biggest lead of the night at 7. D.J. gets his shot blocked by Anthony Collins but corrals the rebound in the right corner just inside the the arc. He calmly jukes him left and then right. The takes one dribble back a step and drills a three pointer.  He turned a huge pound-your-chest moment for Collins into a hang-your-head moment.

2.  Less than two minutes to go in the game, Collins has just converted a three-point play to get USF within 5.  Ohio uses all of the shot clock and DJ gets it up high with about 5 seconds to go with a double team on him.  I remember Jim Spanarkle saying something like "D.J.'s got to make something happen" and he does.  He fakes right, hard dribble left and a jab step which gets both off balance and then he splits them.  He then takes a leaner just inside the FT line with the ball leaving his hand just as the clock expires and rattles it in.  Game, set, match!

There are too many amazing assists to even mention, but I'll always remember the ugly desperate 3 against Akron in the 2012 championship.

The lob to Washington is tops, but the no look bounce pass to Walt against Marshall this year was quite memorable as well.

Freshman Year against Miami in the MAC tourney...pass from half court hits Devaughn in the paint perfectly in stride, which he turns into a reverse dunk.
