I purposely waited for the dust to settle before articulating my thoughts around last nights game.
1) Akron is clearly the best team in the league this year
2) We just can't seem to play 40 minutes of basketball
3) Akron even when they were down by 18 they seemed composed and stayed within their game plan
4) We tended to press on the offense too much and I believed that hurt out shooting %
5) We were pretty solid on all the other stats but shot below our season average
6) I don't necessarily think we were out coached
What I don't know is how we are going to handle this loss over these next 4 games.
We struggle @ BG every year, a loss would be the 3rd in a row and could be devastating.
I still maintain my concerns over the hiring of this coach, and between now end the end of next year will be telling as to whether my concerns were justified.
Final thoughts concerning the MAC Tournament.......I am concerned, very concerned about us being able to reach the finals. If we do I think it's unlikely we would beat Akron if they are the opponent.

Why is everyone all of a sudden deathly afraid of not making the finals? We've beaten every single possible opponent for the semifinals and none of them have beaten us.

EVERYONE is not deathly afraid we won't make the finals.

I expect us to get the #2 seed locked up at either BUGS or Buffalo. The world will not end if we lose at BG, but I don't think we will. I feel confident we'll win at least one of those road games and beat Miami at home. And it's not like Akron has won all their games yet, it's very much in the realm of possibility that they'll slip up and lose one.

At any rate, I still feel we'll make it to the finals and are completely capable of beating whoever we face there.

Go Bobcats.

Probably has a lot to do with them playing from behind a ton during their winning streak. STO did a graphic on the deficits they'd overcome during the streak, and they were wild. I think they won against Buffalo after being down twenty.

Clearly you haven't been reading all the posts lately about how the program is in complete shambles......

71Bobcat...put your concerns about our coach to rest now, save yourself the worry.  You do not have to wait until next season.  Take my word for it.  The guy is rock solid, and he is handling this group of kids very well.  They work hard, they are playing hard, they are doing good things on offense and defense that fit the talent level that we have.  I know he would like to have more inside game, but that doesnt fit our talent make up this season.  I bet we will see more of that on offense as we have the players who excel in that phase of the game.  They have weaknesses for sure, but our staff works hard to try to hide those areas by how we play.
Those things being said, we still have some very tough games remaining on the road before we go to Cleveland, and none will be easy.  just ask Michigan as they are leaving the gym at Penn State !   College basketball means you can be beaten by just about anyone on your schedule.  If and when that happens, it should not trigger the "Fire the Coach" threads we see on this site !

Hey Doubledribble...
I would like to see what you see in this coach, however, our team is not better than last year. Usually when a team returns all the players we did there should be improvement. It will be hard for anyone to think that the program will not take a hit next year and therefor suffer in the W-L column. We are graduating 5 of the top 6 or 7 players.

Graduating players = coach's fault.

Cooper, Keely, Offutt, Baltic? Is McKinley in your top 6 or 7? Or are you just throwing random numbers out?

i'm not the Optimist, but seriously? 20 wins when you play 31 games plus tournament, plus 16 of those games are in the MAC.

not worried about 20 wins. now if you're talking MAC championship either regular season or tourney - then i have my doubts.

but 20 wins nowadays is what 16-18 used to be - not that all figured difficult.
