Semi-off topic, but does anyone have access to the video that was played before tipoff?  It wasn't Walt's, the one where the team came out, or the one during starting lineups; but the one that showed all the shots of students, uptown Athens, and campus?  I hadn't seen it before, and thought it did an excellent job of capturing life at OU.  Not a big deal, just wondering if anyone could post it?

EDIT: Seems to have just been uploaded.  Great stuff as always

That was a great feel-good video. I hope to see it posted online soon. In fact, I thought the entire buildup to the tip was handled masterfully (say what you will about OU-Oh yeah) from the videos, to the music, to various O Zone chants. It felt very high major.

Reghi loved the atmosphere as well. Said that it was what MAC basketball is all about.

Actually, if last night's crowd was like what MAC basketball is all about there would have been 1,000 to 3,000 fans in the Convo.

I was thinking the same thing. NO way anyone else in that MAC puts on that show. Akron might have won the game but if I am a recruit in the crosshairs of any other MAC school I am heading to play in front of the OZone. Only other time I remember the gyms packed like that in the MAC was Balls when the new stadium opened and they had really deep, likeable team. Upper deck was packed.

Close the deal COach. Put us over the top.

AMazing.

Hah! That's too funny. Last night was the antithesis of what MAC Basketball is all about. Packed arena, lots of charged-up students and a great environment.

There's no MAC school that could come close to what we had from a crowd and atmosphere standpoint last night. I don't care if they're playing Duke at home...it ain't happening.

Reghi loved the atmosphere as well. Said that it was what MAC basketball SHOULD BE BUT ISN'T all about.

Fixed it.

By the way, Bo Boroski is the new Sam Lickliter; he knows how to miss the crucial foul or blow the call.  18 Ohio fouls called in the second half.  Not the reason for the loss--but critical nonetheless.

Boroski's inconsistency nearly drove me insane.

I will say that I think he gave us a call with 12 seconds left as I thought the ball went off Jon Smith's shoulder before going out of bounds.

You're right, that happened in front of me. Ball went off Jon.

I'm not saying he favored one team over another, he made bad calls both ways. He just seems very inconsistent in the way he calls things (over the backs, for example) and it really bugs me.

And I'm not saying officiating cost us the win, Akron flat out beat us.

I am saying that I hope I don't have to see Boroski and his deer-in-the-headlights face anytime again soon.

It seems like sometimes he'll make a bad call just to see how the coach will react. He called an incredibly cheap 1st foul on Marshall.

Having said that, you may see Bo again in Cleveland. And, Ohio is 2-0 when he works the game.

Refs for last 4 MAC Championship Games:

2011-12 – Bo Boroski, Buddy Mayborg, Larry Scirotto

2010-11 – Bo Boroski, Buddy Mayborg, Lamont Simpson

2009-10 – Bo Boroski, Buddy Mayborg, Terry Wymer

2008-09 – Bo Boroski, Mike Sanzere, Terry Wymer

If any combination of three of those guys is the best the MAC has, no wonder officiating the league is lousy, inconsistent and sucks!

Borna, just posted this in the attendance thread.  What do you think:

"Looked like a big time crowd/atmosphere on the tube.  And, I would say this just confirms that if OHIO really wanted to make a splash, basketball probably is where it is at.  Seems to be a real big time following by students and locals when it is a big game.  Just too bad we don't have more big games.  Also confirms the rest of the league, right now, adds absolutely nothing to make the MAC look like a high basketball mid major.

Very disappointing for our fans, students and alumni!!"

Borna's sentiment, shared by most on here, about Athens and Ohio University being a no-brainer for football and basketball recruits has some merit. You can't deny the fan support compared to the rest of the MAC and the beauty of SE Ohio.

However, not all recruits, most of whom are from urban areas, want to spend four years in Appalachia. In other words, what most on here consider to be a positive can arguably be considered a negative in the minds of many/some recruits.

Personally I agree with everything till the last line. It was dissapointing but I do not think it is part of the other discussion which stands on it's own.

2 seperate issues and each deserves to stand alone.

Many ways to build a program and they are choosing to buy games, stay at home for the crowds and get less than major opponents while heading out for a couple of mid level high major conference roadies. TOS kept em on the road with some high high majors to pay for the program.

As we get better as a program big 6 conference programs start wanting no part of us. Teams like Butler and Gonzaga built by selecting high major games on the road that were winnable in addition to hosting home and homes. Both were in similar schlocky conferences that drag down the RPI come in conference schedules. I think our AD has done a good job building the buzz and filling the bldg. We are poised to make a vault if we can get back to the tourney and maybe even win a game or at least compete.

I think you summed it up... I am not dissapointed with this loss unless we fail to take lessons away and apply them. We will need to be dialed in and focused. The competition is. When I saw them against SD I told several people and may have even posted that I thought they looked to be in tourney run up mode. They are executing better than any Akron team I ever remember. Crisp, tough and purposeful.....yet we had them flat on their back 1st half.

I wanna dance and leave this conference sucking the tailpipe for many years to come.

Several reports said very little Akron presence last night. Even on weekenights we have large OHIO presence on the road from Dekalb to Stow. Even a asmattering in Buffalo on a wednesday in a blizzard.

And FWIW>  I do not think Applachia is as big an issue with recruits as one would think....been to Las Cruces, Wichita, Peoria, Macomb

Borna, disappointment was not about the Akron game.  I thought it was a great college basketball game except for the outcome.

My disappointment is we have the facility and fan base to make it much bigger than the MAC will ever allow us.  Just think, OUr crowd almost outdrew ALL the other MAC games.  I meant it was disappointing to all involved that we have neighbors that draw a couple thousand or a couple hundred.  I'd much rather be in a MVC type situation for basketball.  I think we would compete and be with schools that are committed to being a top 10 conference.

Of course, football is also in the discussion and I guess there is no way we leave the MAC because of that sport!

GOtcha......

I agree. THe problem with worrying about moving is that we have yet to dominate the MAC. I like where we are and what we have done to promote the OHIO brand. I have long felt we should just kill this conference and compete on a higher level eventually getting to the point where we compete on a whole nother level when we are OOC

My biggest problem is tha Akron is doing exactly what I thought we should be.....through the exposure camps, LBJ Academy and the Hooopfest they have yearly they expose thousnads of players each year to their faicilites.

We should be using our team camps to attract teams from out of state, run an elite camp, partner with Proshot to run a shooting camp for elite players to expose them to OHIO and be pretty novel to get our name out thre.

Akron is using what they have available to them and are on their way to domination the MAC. St Marys and GOnzaga have eaten into the recruiting base that was what was entirely the domain of the PAC10. I believe Akron is going to be a Gonzaga like entity if they stay on course. We can be happy with where we are and be happy to land MAC level talent and be a MAC level team or we can swing for the fences and control the destiny by reaching higher. I got to think Mr Alden had a great vision and would like to think that if we can not get out of this conference we should aspire to put some distance between us and the rest of the conference

What about these rumors that the Benedictines are getting ready to buy OU, rename it Benedict after the retiring Pope, and finance a move immediately into the new Catholic 7 conference?
