Great game to watch, very exciting. I think the bobcats played well, but the Zips played better. The Zips are tough, kudos to them. Last year's Zip team, would have and did, fold after our big run. They have a great balanced team.

Bobcats had a terrible stretch to start the 2nd half that killed us. I thought overall, OU played well, but just couldn't get over the hump.

As others have mentioned - Ivo is really struggling and I think JC/staff have tried a lot of different things, but nothing has worked. It was telling that when Hall fouled out, they put Jon Smith in, instead of Ivo. But without him, it puts a lot of pressure on Smith and Keely on the defensive end against bigger teams like Akron.

Nick continues to struggle from 3, but I didn't think he played horrible. He had a couple of nice drives to the basket. T. Wilkens provided a good boost and JC tried to ride his hot hand, but maybe left him in too long. Wilkens played more than Nick.

Cooper hit a ton a big shots, but also took a couple of questionable 3's. I'd rather we give it to Walt down the stretch, especially with Zeke out. Seems like Walt can get to the basket, make things happen.

But Walt had a good look at 3 to win the game that he missed, set up by Cooper. If that goes in, it's different ending.
  • Bobcats played hard
  • Rebounded well (-1 total is really a win for us this year)
  • Good Assist (18) to TO (9) ratio
  • It hurt that we fouled too much
  • And we could a shot a bit better from the field (41%)

But the Zips were hot all game - 50% from field, 50% from 3...kudos to them. They deserved to win.

The continuing class of the Akron basketballers is reflected in their giving the OU student section the finger. Some things never change.

It could be worse.  We could have lost to the last place team in our conference, giving them their first win:

Agreed.

I had no problem with their players giving the O-zone crap; we were giving them everything we could all night.  You don't expect them to react after everything that went on this game?

As to the thread itself, I have a lot of respect for the team up in Akron this year.  They are the class of the MAC right now.  Hats off to them for their toughness; a lot of teams would fold down a bunch in a rabid environment.

I came away from the game the same way, that is a dang good basketball team.  The same group (practically) in the same position last year here folded when they fell down early.  They fought back and took the game back like a great team does.  I could see it coming late in the 1st half when they started getting good looks, hitting them, and trimmed the lead to 11 at half.  It only continued in the 2nd half.  It seemed like every big shot in the 2nd half, every loose ball, every hustle play, it all went Akron's way.  That's not by accident or happenstance.  We seem to bring out the best in Akron, considering up there Abreu had a career high and Zeke was 8/8 from the field.  Down here, Treadwell had a monster game, Zeke was good, and Kretzer goes off.  And all that being said, both games were tight down the stretch.  Sure they pulled away up there, but it was a 5-6 point game late into the 2nd half.  I think this is going to be a great MACC final, and I'm hoping to see Round 3.

Hats off to Akron, they are a good team who came into our house and beat us.

Akron is built to be a cinderella team in the dance. They have depth, versatility, toughness, experience, and SIZE. Gosh, they have six guys in their regular rotation 6'7'' or taller. We have two. Sometimes I feel sorry for Walt giving up five inches to Nick Harney, Chris Evans, Jon Harris, Harrison Barnes, etc.

Congrats to the Zips, enjoy your win.

You'll pay for it in Cleveland.

Agreed-props to the Zips.  Winning 19 games in a row, including a game on the road against 11,000 crazed Ohio fans, is no small feat.

Treadwell is becoming a total force.  We really have no answer for him right now.

And that frankly is the difference in the second half of this game.  He's the Zippy's MVP without a doubt in my mind.

Maurice N'Dour aka Nature Boy aka Tree Stopper can't get here soon enough.

I hope I'm not hyping him up too much.

Sadly, you may be. Just like half the board did with Kadeem.  He'll probably be solid, but to expect him to dominate (IMO) the best player in the MAC is a little much.

Kadeem Green did not have highlight tapes like Maurice N'Dour has.

The Clippers have already been in this year to watch Mo play.
