Was looking at our losses and trying to see any patterns in our scoring and I noticed that if you divide the game up into quarters that there tends to be a trend where play good for 3 quarters but then get blown out 1 quarter which results in the loss. We're winning the battles, but losing the war.

Below I've charted our losses with scoring by quarter and margin, highlighting the worst quarters. The Robert Morris game, for example, was decided in the first quarter, we outscored them over the next 3 but it wasn't enough. Memphis was the worst example as we only played well for 1 quarter. We won 3 quarters against Winthrop but still lost, played UMass and Oklahoma even for 3 quarters and still lost too Akron's 31-13 run in the 2Q was the difference maker and Belmont dominated 2 quarters.

I don't know if this is more frustrating or encouraging, but I hope we can avoid a blowout quarter against Akron Wednesday, if we stay focused for 40 minutes we should be ok.

Robert Morris
1Q 10-26 (-16)
2Q 21-11 (+10)
3Q 22-21 (+1)
4Q 23-26 (-3)

Memphis
1Q 15-12 (+3)
2Q 13-24 (-11)
3Q 19-27 (-8)
4Q 11-21 (-10)

Winthrop
1Q 12-9 (+3)
2Q 13-11 (+2)
3Q 11-18 (-7)
4Q 13-12 (+1)

UMass
1Q 19-19 (0)
2Q 21-29 (-8)
3Q 20-20 (0)
4Q 16-17 (-1)

Oklahoma
1Q 17-14 (+3)
2Q 12-15 (-3)
3Q 14-25 (-11)
4Q 20-20 (0)

Akron
1Q 23-10 (+13)
2Q 13-31 (-18)
3Q 14-18 (-4)
4Q 21-25 (-4)

Belmont
1Q 10-19 (-9)
2Q 14-22 (-8)
3Q 17-16 (+1)
4Q 21-24 (-3)

Also interesting, we lost the second half in ALL these games...inability to come back/adjust?

Problem with this thread is that college basketball plays halfs not quarters.

Are you just trying to raise your post count?   Heck, he could have even broken it down further.  I've heard coaches talk about winning the next four minutes (TV timeout to TV timeout).  Good stuff, perimeterpost

Try to expand your brain, man. Try to think outside the box.

Billythecat has his ^ critics ^ but at least they let slide his plural spelling of "half".

and here's how our 4 quarters looked against Akron-

1Q 17-13 (+4)
2Q 24-17 (+7)
3Q 13-28 (-15)
4Q 18-14 (+4)

once again, we win the battles, but lose the war. Very frustrating.

We ate treading dangerously close to Master of the Obvious territory here.

To resolve, please identify the specifc problem(s) (blocking out on 'bounds, hedging too far out, or whatever) and propose the solution(s).

Then, institute agreed solutions.
