Well hopefully that inspires us to make a run through March as Akron is losing steam.

This loss is going to drop Akron from 37 to 57 in the RPI. It's going to hurt in the polls too. That would be Akron's only saving grace if they can make the MAC final and finish in the Top 25 of a poll. The magnitude of the Buffalo loss hurts them in that regard.

Akron won't sniff the TOP-25 again. At-Large is history. It would have been great to send 2 teams to the Dance, but I would also enjoy keeping them out if OHIO can get it done in Cleveland.

The winning streak is gone one of their trump cards. All Akron had to do was win out in the regular season and they were in. It didn't matter if they lost Friday or Saturday in Cleveland.

It will only drop their RPI to the mid-40's. They certainly still have at-large hopes but need to make the MAC Finals now.

If they win their last 2, the semifinal, and lose to us in the finals...I think they'll be high enough to at least be mentioned as a snub when they don't make it.

IMHO even if Akron wins the next 3 but looses in the conference finals they will probably be subbed by the committee. They have incurred some real bad luck in gaining tournament bids of late. They have gotten snubbed by the NIT and also lost many of their 1st round games in the tournaments they have participated in.
Their only chance of making the big dance, if they lost in the conference finals, would have been to be ranked at that point.

Yahoo has them at 46 this morning; ESPN has them at 47.  If this holds up even with a loss in the MAC championship game, they would likely be one of the last four in.  If it comes down to Akron vs. another team, they usually look at what the team did during the last month of the season.  The other teams around them are Notre Dame (5-3 since 2/1), Cincy (3-5), Oregon (5-3) and LaTech (8-0).  So Akron (7-1) would be in pretty good shape.

It's such a soft bubble this year, I think there's a chance they could still make it.  ESPN has been having teams like Tennessee, Alabama, & St. John's as it's Last 4 In/ First 4 Out, and they're all in the upper 50s & Lower 60s in RPI.

Not saying it's going to happen, but I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that they can't make it.

Me thinks the only way the god awful MAC gets 2 bids is for one team to be ranked for many weeks and then lose in the conference tournament.  Not gonna happen this year.  And, not in the near future either.

Except for the OHIO wins...Akron doesn't really have another solid win...MTSU...ok..maybe. I'm not buying that Akron is a lock if it loses in the championship game. Soft MAC schedule....very soft. Weakest conference in years.

It hurts. Akron will be on the bubble if they win out until the tourney finals. Much of that will depend on the conference tournaments go. If someone other than Creighton or Wichita State wins the MVC tournament, for example, that could take an at-large bid away from the rest of the field. Or if someone other than Gonzaga or St. Mary's in the WCC. Or Memphis in Conference USA. Then if you have a major surprise team from the major conferences, that could do it too. Belmont and Louisiana Tech could be right on the same bubble with Akron if they lose their tournaments.

I don't think anyone said they are a lock.  Many just think they'll be right there in the bubble discussion and as others have said, it depends on how a lot of other things break.

All I care about is that the Cats make them a bubble discussion team.

I was actually hoping Akron would not lose again heading into tournament play.  Get their heads nice and big.

You heard it hear first, it will be OHIO vs. Kent State in the MAC Championship Game on March 16th.   (been my hunch for a while now as  I think Kent State is in the perfect position of building momentum and laying low while Akron/Ohio get all the props.   You can throw it back in my face March 17th if I'm wrong).

I agree with your first line although I find it extremely disconcerting to have to tacitly approve  of them winning anytime they play.

I like the line of thought and do think Can't is a nightmare for everyone including us the way they are finishing games presently.

Ugh.  I would rather play Akron in the finals than Kent right now.

Seriously, how much of a letdown would it be it somehow the MACC came down to WMU and Kent.  Gross.

anyone know what happened to Chauncy Gilliam?

he was playing significant minutes up until the game vs OU in Akron where he only played 2 minutes. Since then he hasn't played more than 7 minutes a game including 2 minutes at Buffalo and zero minutes at EMU and OU.
