I'm interested in the collective opinion here... Who do you think makes the final from the other side of the bracket?

I still think it's going to be Akron. Despite losing Abreu, they still have a very good team with the best bigs in the MAC.

When they lost to Kent, they had just found out the day before about what happened to Abreu. Give them a week of practice and time to prepare with Betancourt and I think they'll be ready for the MAC Tournament.

It should set up for an Ohio/Akron final.

I have Buffalo getting past CMU and Ball State to meet Kent in the quarterfinals. Whoever wins that game takes down Akron the next night. I think Kent comes out of that side of the bracket.

I think that side of the bracket is very interesting with Buffalo being the wild card.

- The Bulls will ease past CMU having beat them previously 91-73.
- The next game vs Ball State should be a good one, Bulls won the first match by 3 but the Cards have won 7 of their last 8 and Scaife is playing really well.
- Buffalo lost twice to Kent State but the last time was by 2 in OT.
- If they make it to Akron they know they've beat the Zips 3 of the last 4 times.

Wouldn't it be great to see Buffalo pull off a Herculean feat by winning 4 straight only to have to face a well rested Ohio team that has beat them 6 times in a row? I'm rooting for the Bulls.

FYI Eastern and Northern are in our half of the bracket.

Could you imagine if Buffalo somehow ended up cutting down the nets in Cleveland? They'd be 17-19 heading into the big dance. The MAC has never had a #16 seed, but I gotta think the Bulls would be one, probably even playing one of the play-in games.

Of course we don't have to worry about it because even if the Bulls make it to the finals, our boys will restore order in the MAC

With a week to prepare Dambrot will run circles around Senderoff who will only have a day to prepare his team because he knows they can lose to anybody.  If Akron had to play a game before Kent it might be different but there's a pretty stark difference in coaching ability in this one.

Yeah, I got a little team happy and included EMU and NIU. Whoops!

OUVan makes a good point above with his thoughts about Dambrot's coaching, he's got a lot of work to do in just a week though. Watching Friday night's game I thought Akron had a lot of trouble finding good first shots on offense and were at their best working off of O-boards. Dambrot has to find a way to get into their offense a little better than that, and rely on their defense a little bit which still looked pretty solid vs. Kent. Should be an entertaining week.

I'm especially looking forward to a potential Kent/Buffalo matchup in the quarters, I think that could be a heckuva game if the Beefs advance.

What two bone heads voted for NIU? First off their in our bracket, second their god awful.  If I had to put my money, I would put it either on Kent or Akron.

Ball State is on fire right now. I wouldn't be surprised one bit to see them make a run. Five straight and seven of their last eight.

I'd LIKE it to be Akron. First, for a chance for revenge. Second, that'd give us the biggest potential RPI-related boost for seeding in the NCAA Tournament. (Maybe helping make the difference between a 14 and a 13 seed.)

Even if Abreu isn't there, it'd be plenty sweet to stop Akron a game shy of the Big Dance AGAIN. (Thinking positive here... cause Akron still scares me plenty.)

Hmmm. My answer is I don't care.  I think we are very capable of beating anybody. Bring em on!

I'm with GoCats on this one. Ball State is really hot right now and poised to make a surprise deep run.

I think it ends up being the winner of Akron vs. Ball State. I think the other semi is Ohio vs. WMU.

Everyone keeps saying how Akron's bigs beat us both times and they are still there.  Uh, if I remember right, you need a good ball handler/point guard to bring the ball down and get it to them.  So, you are saying an unexperienced freshman is going to do that against DJ and Stevie?  That is why my vote is for Kent.  However, Buffalo or Ball State would be interesting as well.

I initially want to say Akron still wins on Friday, but if they play Kent, I have to think Kent won't play a half as badly as they played at Akron in the 2nd half.  Of course they still won, but they looked terrible in doing it.  The second half of that game was very sloppy.  As crisp and confident as Kent looked in the 1st half, they looked that poor in the 2nd, but still held on.  Evans was a non-factor in the 2nd half.  I think Kent beats them in Cleveland, then we have a tough rematch with the Flashes.

I initially want to say Kent, but after more thought I still think Akron makes it.

As much as I would hate to play them a 3rd time I have to say Kent State.  If they can run and gun Akron again, taking advantage of Akron's bad guard play they will make the Final.
