I was going to post this. You beat me to it! Excellent article. My one aside is that Saul Phillips knew talent, had a keen eye for potential! Had Tony Bennett evaluated in the same way, UVA would have had Ben for his entire career. Tony is a great talent evaluator, but so is Saul! I hope Saul finds a way back to Division I ball. If Tony Bennett loses an assistant, Saul would be a perfect fit!

While not thread specific - Miami just lost their bowl game and Miami still sucks. I think we can all agree both statements are absolute. ;)
+1000 We can agree on that one! In fact, in my dictionary if you look up the word "sucks," it says "See the entry for Miami University."

Watching the CBS College Basketball intro show and they're running down the biggest upsets of the year and included Sears go ahead three vs. Houston.

Cool day today -- Bama vs. Gonzaga and Houston vs. UVA.

Anybody think there's any chance he's being listed as a potential NBA draft pick without Alabama's schedule?
Yes, in fact I think there were a few NBA mentions of him last year.
100% - heard many rumblings within the student section that they hoped Sears wouldn’t declare for the draft early like Rollins did.

Rollins committed because he was projected as a drafted player. Nobody was projecting Sears to be drafted, and a lot of people here talked about how he disappeared against top competition. Even while at Alabama, people stated that once Alabama got out of the cupcake portion of the schedule, he'd struggle. It's basically the second post in this thread, and something echoed by a lot of people in the portal thread.

If Sears was playing against OUs schedule, I doubt that sentiment would have changed much. He's playing top competition game in, game out right now. Suspect he's not considered an NBA possibility without that right now, as there would still be questions about his abilities against top competition.

1/8 and 0/7 for the boys - not a good day. Maybe they should have played against Stetson today.

Listen, I really liked both of those guys, I don’t see the need to knock Ohio.

Saw BVP got his first UVA start against U Albany, but only came up with 3 points and 15 mins played. Sears has been on a roll lately.

I’m watching BVP and Virginia vs Pitt…and see Nike Sibande hitting big shots for Pitt. There’s a guy I didn’t know was still playing college hoops.

BVP with 22 mins and 1-4 from the field, 1 Reb, 2 steals. Virginia stumbling a bit, 2-3 in their last 5 albeit against solid competition.

Sears with 16 points (5-11) 6 boards only 1 assist with 3 TOs but Bama gets the win easy. They may be heading to the top 5 with Texas & Purdue losses.

Don’t know how the game will end but Ben has led Virginia back from a deficit and is Virginia’s leading scorer at the moment including three big 3’s.

Watched the entire game. UVA was dead in the water and BVP + McNeely off the bench sparked the comeback. BVP finished with a game high 17 pts, including a steal-dunk to put the game away. I think he was 1 board away from a double-double.

Man I miss that guy.

Good to see him and Sears have quality contributions on the bigger stage.

BVP has started a game or two, but typically comes off the bench. Yet, he usually logs more minutes than the UVa frontline starters. For example, last night BVP played 27 min compared to 2 starters getting 18 and 15 min.

BVP starting his 5th game tonight.

On triple double watch with 7-6-6

Currently averaging the 4th most minutes on UVA. Proud as hell, though sad about how our season is going.

Silly to play the coulda-woulda-shouldas, but hard to believe OU wouldn't have a record better than / or similar to Kent State right now with BVP and Sears.

BVP was in Athens for five years and probably maxed what he could do academically at Ohio and part of me is still going to remember him as a guy who left.

Last 6 games: Sears 14-41 from field. 5-28 from 3. Once he got into conference play, teams figured him out.

Instead of thinking what could have been this season, how about considering whether Ohio got the max last year with Sears (currently starting PG for potential Final 4 team Bama), BVP (4th most minutes for a potential Final 4 team UVa), and Jason Carter (previous to last year a 2-year starter for Big East team X). Plus a couple more contributors that helped Ohio beat UVa in the NCAA tournament the previous season.

I actually think about the 2020-21 season more...We had Preston, Sears, BVP & DW3 all on the same team. That's 4 high major players with pro ball aspirations. I'm glad we put it together for the MAC tourney and win against Virginia...otherwise it was a very underachieving season in hindsight (13-7 going into the MAC tourney)

There's an alternate universe out there where Sears, Preston, and BVP are on this year's squad -- JP had two years remaining when he left. So last year, they played with Carter, and this year with Dwight.

That could be. Great 1st half of the season shooting from outside, but not getting to the basket like he did at Ohio. Now he's spending much of his time lounging around the elbow.

Another quiet night for BVP, though he's still starting and they've won 10 of their last 12.

Showdown with Duke on Saturday. That should be fun.

Sears also slowing down as of late. Alabama still probably the toughest team in the country.

Secretly hoping they put Alabama or UVA.... Youngstown State???... in Columbus for the NCAA tournament, since OU will need quite a miracle and OSU is in the same boat.
