It amazes me that so many people including announcers don't know the secondary defender rule after two seasons. When the blocking call against reggie under the basket  happened everyone at least on my side of the areana tought it was a terrible call. However under the rules it was the correct call. The official immediately pointed at the half circle making the call. What really surprises me though is that while watching the replay of the game today the announcers on tv had no clue as to why the call was made. The review wasn't too see if regie had established himself in the posistion it was to check to make sure he was inside the circle which he was. Normally that announcing crew seems to be okay but they missed that one.

I think there probably were very few people who really could see where Reggie was, but certainly, the TV camera angle should have made that obvious to the commentators. I think fans probably were upset because there were a few block-charge calls that went against the Bobcats, although they had no right to be upset on that one in particular.

The review was actually to see if the ball went in.  Somehow all three officials missed the ball going in.

It never surprises me that STO announcers have no clue about anything.  I counted at least three times that Reghi referred to John Harris as "John Smith".  And even though he had gone through DJ's list of accomplishments several times during the broadcast, he seemed to be lost at the end when discussing the points/assists/rebs/steals milestones; he stalled (badly) until they got the graphic up.

The refs really weren't that good.  "Traveling" is apparently not in their vocabulary; Fiami players slid their pivot foot three or four times and got away with it.  I really thought they blew the basket interference call on Jon in the first half.  The replay showed that even though the ball wasn't quite completely off the rim, it was definitely falling off.  I've seen tip-ins allowed even though the ball was higher up on the rim than that one.

the goal tending call was the one I wondered about also. I was sitting behind and to the right of the basket and it looked okay to me. Oh well I am 58, a lot looks good to me now that didn't a long time ago.

I enjoyed everybody getting upset about the non-jump ball called on the baseline underneath our basket in the 2nd half.

It was the correct non call. Both players got tangled up and the ball was stuck in between their FEET. Nobody had possession. The players on both sides just "assumed" he'd call jump ball and looked at each other until the shot clock expired.

I think all in all the refs were pretty decent. Sure they missed some here and there but they're human. That's going to happen to every team every game.

Oh and in reference to the blocking call you're talking about, JC didn't even get upset at the official for that call (though he did a few of the others they missed/blew). He immediately yelled at Reg for not sliding over and stepping up to cut off the baseline sooner so he could have taken the charge outside the restricted circle.

99% of the times refs call that a jump ball quickly for safety reasons.

That ref stunk all game.

The ref looked right at them and put his hands in the air to say "umm NOBODY has the ball right now". Having the ball in between your feet doesn't constitute possession. It was the absolute right call.

Good teaching point to play to the whistle though.

The game was well officiated, with some quirky plays.

I was sitting at the opposite end in the upper deck and saw Reg's heels inside the arc and was amazed when I watched the replay this am that the commentators were clueless.

Jon's GT was still in the cylinder but would have been allowed in most games. That was sploitting hairs as there was no one around him and he did not really make a huge display. It was  a very good play.

Travels and carrys were undercalled on Miami s end yesterday no doubt.

Almost all 50/50 balls went Mimai's ways yesterday.

As I was watching the game I wondered aloud." do you suppose the MAC office said the the officiating crew , :"Bobcats are gonna have to earn this one., make sure Miami gets a favorable officiating job" Thinking they might not want Co Champs for some reason.  " I was pretty amazed at the way the game was worked.

From where I was sitting, it looked like Walt couldn't get to the ball because it was under the Miami player, kind of like a hockey player grabbing the puck.  I would have expected a change of possession before a jump ball, but I didn't really have a good angle.

If I remember correctly, the ref also ran into Stevie on the shot attempt prior to the not calling a jump ball.  (I can't remember the exact timing but I remember the ref picking Stevie then making what Christian deemed a bad call as he probably should have got T'd up for his reaction.)  I did notice the same ref doing the Illinois OSU game the next day too.

On the not-a-jump-ball ... looked to me like Walt was unable to turn to grasp the ball because he was being held.  It is amazing what you can get away with in those scrums over loose balls.  It is common to see a player leap on top of the pile, grabbing bodies and arms and heads, without anything being called.

I was sitting pretty much right in front of this on the floor. It was the right call. No one had possession. The ball was just lying there with no one in possession with both players looking up at the ref. Walt tried to call a timeout, but of course, he didn't have the ball; no one did. I can't say if there was any fouling that led to the ball being loose on the floor, but no one fouled on the floor.
