Who gets player of the year?

It looks like a two player race with Cooper and Marshall, but lets throw McCrea's name in there too.

http://statsheet.com/mcb/players/compare?add=zeke-marshall&p1=javon-mccrea&p2=3-dj-cooper

The link above is how they compare with their national ranking listed next to the stat.

that would be just like the MAC.......... to take a kid who is garnering national press for the conference for his individual accomplishments over the past 4 years, set foot on earth where no player in NCAA history has ever gone, has endured a coaching change and continues to lead his team  to a a winning season at the top of the conference, has garnered more focus on the MAC than any other player current with 2 exciting post seasons..............and then give that award to someone else......Jeez show the kid a little love for what he has brought in national recognition to the MAC.,

There hasn't been a worthy MAC POTY since Turner Battle in 2005.  I'm getting the feeling that this year will be no different.

Without doing the research, am I the only one who feels like the award very often goes to a a player who is on the regular season championship winning team?

Here's one way to look at it:  Of the players that are candidates, which team, if you take that guy away from them, is obviously worse off?  If I'm looking at it that way, I'd consider McCrea and Cooper ahead of Zeke.  I still think Treadwell is a more important player for the Zips than Zeke.  You take DJ from OUr team, and there's a noticeable difference. Same with McCrea.

Edit:  Maybe I'm a little too biased on the Zeke/Treadwell thing.  After looking, Zeke has strung together a number of really good games down the stretch.

I believe Buffalo was the 2 seed last year when Watt won it. Also, I know WMU didn't win the MAC when David Kool won POTY.

Maybe it is like the consolation prize......like the Disney SPirit Award.....Kool was exactly who came to mind;.....and Watt was the most undeserving dude I have ever seen. Should have gone to DJ last year IMHO in retrospect.

Zeke is probably the most improved starter in the league this year especially on the offensive end and you can't deny that he has an enormous effect on the game on the defensive end but D.J. is a once in a generation talent.  But the problem is that you may not get that if you don't see him every game.  Plus for opposing fans he's an easy guy to hate. Plus for three years we've had a play-by-play guy on MAC games that hated him for some unknown reason.   D.J. should be a shoe-in for the award but he won't be.

IMO, it should be between Coop and McCrea.  Between those too, it's fairly simple: One team is 22-8, the other is 12-18.  Coop

I still don't understand why Zeke is in the conversation.  Sure, he's good.  But they have an award for what he is excellent at.  It's called the Defensive PoY.

STO play-by-play announcer Reghi, from my perspective, is a big DJ fan. OTOH, Steve Mix, the former analyst, did not speak highly of DJ's shot selection over the years.

Are you guys also impressed with the amount of great recruits and players that have come to MAC schools in the past 6 years? I mean we freaking got Armon Basset from INDIANA and recruited a player who had an offer FROM BAYLOR and interest from KENTUCKY. Both of those guys had tremendous impact on our team. Then look at Central Michigan getting Trey Zeigler. Kent State getting Chris Evans, Akron getting Treadwell and Zeke..., BGSU getting Crawford and Callhoun, and buffalo getting McCrea.

Some good players you listed. However, the overall talent level in the MAC over the last 10 years is as low as I can remember, dating back to late 1970s.

I don't consider Crawford from BG high level talent.

I just considered him because of his scoring.

Cooper should have won it last year and I'm sure will miss out on it again this year.   He gets snubbed out of the Bob Cousy award (or even being a finalist).  Now, he reaches a milestone that has never been done before.  As of now, still nothing mentioned on MAC-Sports.com about it. The MAC is clueless.   Zeke wins POTY.

In moments like this, the MAC is known to do something from way out of left field. For that reason and that reason only, I am picking Rian Pearson from Toledo.

C'mon think about it. Nothing to play for, yet he plays so hard every night and is tied for the league lead in scoring.

(nudge with the elbow to the side) Huh? Huh????

*Although I'm not sure he's eligible for postseason awards as the team is not either.

Juanny is a great kid from a super family. That was spurred by a member of the press that covers the MAC somewhere other than Muncie and the SID ran with it. I think that is a good SID move to promote your University. Unrealistic maybe but that is what he gets paid for and certainly given Scaife's current scoring tear.....I would be pissed if it was my kid and the school did not at least give him some support/

I don't know if people have noticed how well Ball State has been playing lately, although I'm sure it has some to do with going up exclusively against the West.

No way Pierson gets it due to Toledo's issues - certainly no fault of his own.  It will be someone from the East, but alas not Coop.  Zeke will run away with it, I believe.

I don't doubt the kid is a great person and he is having a very good season, but maybe they should push him for all-mac team and not player of the year
