I attended the MAC tournament for the first time in 1989 when it was played at Toledo's Savage Hall. The semi final teams were Ohio, CMU, WMU and EMU. Ohio ended up losing to EMU in the championship game.

They seem to run together...but wasn't that tourney 1988?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid-American_Conference_Men%27s_Basketball_Tournament

I was Freshman then and pretty sure went to that tourney.  I definitely was at the 1989 tourney, which was tourney that Ohio was a 9th seed out of 9 teams and had to play a morning game, then won and had to play the same evening against Ball State.  Also went to at least the 1991 game in Cobo.

My first neutral site tournament game was in 2001. I think it was a semifinal against Miami?

But my first actual MAC tournament game was in College in the early 90's in the Convo. I think it was against WMU in 1994. I have a very hazy memory about the game, other than it was a blowout. I believe that the BP on Court Street was running a special on gas. Whatever WMU's final score was, that would be the price per gallon with a ticket stub. I think Western only scored in the 50's, so at around 50 cents per gallon, there were a line of cars down court street waiting to get gas after the game.

Here's to a 1994 like performance against the Broncos tonight!

Go Ohio!

Trent's sophomore season when the tournament was held in Columbus.  So was that 1994?

Ohio lost to Toledo in maddening fashion.  As I recall Trent had a putback that gave Ohio a 1-point lead with about 9 seconds to play.  Toledo inbounded to a guard, Archie _____?, who began bringing the ball upcourt against Chad Estis.

Ohio fans began screaming for a doubleteam on Archie as it was clear that Estis couldn't contain him.  No doubleteam was forthcoming, and Archie dribbled to the top of the key, spun, shot and swish.

How accurate is my memory?

1996 Seagate Center. What a horrible venue for basketball.

Sounds like your memory is better than mine! But that would have been 1993. 1994 was Ohio's Championship run that ended in a first round NCAA Tournament loss to Indiana.

2005 MAC Finals against Buffalo, I was a junior at OU that year.

"Ane Leon tips it in!"

Followed by my first NCAA Game against Florida which was convienent because Nashville was on our way to my Dad's house in Daytona Beach.  One of the best Spring Break's ever.

My first one was my sophomore year as me and a friend drove to Toledo in 1995 (Savage Hall). All I remember is we lost and didn't make the finals. And the big thing I remember is getting a freaking speeding ticket  for going 2 MPH over the speed limit. A cop pulled out and we all started going slow but the cop was going under the speed limit, so I said "f*** it" and I decided to pass him.

The problem was my friend didn't tell me the cop was giving me a warning not to pass him by waving at me. When he told me that in my truck I turned and punched my friend in the arm and the cop just busted out laughing and told me to have my friend pay for the ticket.

Then that was my last MAC tournament until it moved to Cleveland and I have attended every one that Ohio has been involved in since.

Either Rockford when the billboard read "Danny Nee, welcome to the end of the world" as you came into town because of Danny's "Rockford isn't the end of the world but you can see it from there" comment, or Toledo when Ron Harper torched Wining Dan Palumbezzio.   Can't remember which came first but we did lose the opening round in Rockford to Kent.

Also, the beginning of my lifelong feud with Sam Lickliter after overhearing his comments about Nee and OU with the other officials near our breakfast table.  Damn, we miss Roger Paramour as an official!!

The one and only MAC Tourney game I have been able to attend was the 2010 MAC Final and oh what a game it was.

Same as Piney... 1995 in Savage hall. Trent's last year. We lost in the semi's to EMU, Miami lost to Ball St. So instead of getting an Ohio/Miami final like we were expecting, we had to watch EMU and BSU. And we drowned our sorrows at the hotel bar afterwards with some Miami fans.

2010. Planned a quick up and back on Friday night, my class that day ran long, got a ticket on the way towards Marietta. Made it to The Q just before halftime of the first game of the session. Then we won, and we had to find a cheap room at the University Inn on Euclid so we could hit the Saturday game. Great, great experience.

The first one (other than possibly a campus-site game; I can't remember for sure) for me was in the early 2000s in a semifinal against Miami. I'm thinking it was 2003. We had about 8 people staying in one hotel room.

My wife, though, has better MAC Tournament success. The Bobcats are 6-0 in the tournament when she is there. Her first one was the first round at Ball State in 2010. We missed the quarterfinals but went to the semis and title game. Then we missed 2011 but were there for all rounds of Cleveland last year. We also made our cat put on a small OU shirt from a stuffed animal before we left for Cleveland each of the last two championships. The cat will be sporting her Bobcats spirit again before we take off in an hour or two.

Same here, except I was a Freshman, and my roommate and I did the semifinals and championship game. I was hooked from that point forward.

I also made the 2012 championship game thanks to some tickets from a vendor at work.  I honestly had no intentions on going, but tickets were thrown at me, so why not?

2005 Championship game

Had just gotten off the plane from a quarter studying abroad in Australia to celebrate my 21st Bday back down in Athens.  My friends throw me in the back seat of a mini-van the next day and sleep the entire way to Cleveland.  Next thing I remember is storming the court at the Q.

Best 48 hours ever.

    Great stuff.

Danny Nee's first season, team wins a game or two at end of regular season to earn last spot in MAC tourney and first round game at Ball St. Forget the format, but not every team made the tournament. Made the trek to Muncie, possibly with SBH and cc cat (do you guys remember?), for Bobcat loss. Our sophomore year at Ohio.

Two years later, 1983, made the trip north to the frozen tundra with cc cat (SBH?) for the league championship game at regular-season champion BG where Ohio won and several Ohio students stormed the court. Back when BG had some teams with real players (Colin Irish).

2005 Championship game. My whole fraternity was scrambling to put together a carpool plan that morning. My favorite memory was storming the floor (Yes, they used to allow this when it was Gund Arena) and since student seats were TERRIBLE - top rows behind the basket - it took us at least three minutes to get to court level, including going out into the concourse instead of straight down.

2005 Semis and Finals other than campus site games was my 5th year victory lap.  Also remember the mad dash to the court, didn't realize at the time Buffalo had time to even inbound the ball.  I remember it being about a million degrees on the floor when we got there.  Crashed with a buddy of mine and future sister in law at my future in laws in Akron after the Semi's.  Drove straight from the Q to Athens after the Finals driving about a million mph and made it back before the bars closed and had an awesome time reliving the moment and telling the stories of the night.

Leaving in 20 minutes and hope to create some more of those memories.  Go Cats.

Yeah, going out and around to rush the floor was interesting. I was toward the front so it wasn't a huge wait.
