You could make a nice day over in that neighborhood by starting in the morning with breakfast and strolling at the Westside Market (I recommend the falafel or brat, but the coffee, pastries and the smokies and jerky from Czuchraj Meats are divine).

There are plenty of good restaurants at all budget levels along that route as well. Hint: you can do better than any of the beer places.

agree on your recomendations...I work downtown and often hit the market on a Friday for lunch.  When I do, I almost also grab a stuffed chicken wing from Kim Se.(Cambodian).  If you have never had a stuffed chicken wing, this is the place to try one.

Another dining option for the adventurous is Superior Pho.  It's located on Superior just east of I-90. Not fancy, but good.(Think Millers Chicken)  Has the best Vietnamese food in NE Ohio.  www.superiorpho.com

What section are the Ohio tickets in?

Thanks.

My understanding is 125, 124 123 with some students in 118 and 117.

Doubletree for $85 through Priceline.  Something of a hike, but a nice hotel.  I've stayed there numerous times over the years, especially back when it was a Holiday Inn.

That's a nice hotel, but definitely not walking distance to the Q.

The downtown Hampton is just like any other Hampton. I think both of these hotels require valet parking.

It is about a mile walk, which isn't awful for some.

I stayed there in the past for the MAC Tournament and they had a shuttle running between there and the Q, as well.

The Cleveland Parrothead Club recommended the Nauti Mermaid, seafood joint with Key West motif. Definitely a possibility for Saturday lunch. I'm a sucker for raw oysters and conch ceviche.

Umm... The Mermaid is a bit of a dive bar (in a good way). Dive bar + raw seafood = walking a highwire without a net. Honestly, I kinda like the place as a watering hole and I am not saying I know you'll get sick if you eat there (in fact, I've eaten cooked seafood there and it's just fine), but I promise you that there are dozens of better places to eat downtown. If you really want oysters, splurge at the bar at Blue Point Grille in the same neighborhood, where they're $2 apiece (vs. $11 a dozen at the Mermaid) and served from one of the best seafood kitchens in town. Blue Point is fancy but not snooty, but it can get very expensive if you wander off the happy hour and bar menus too far.

Anybody know details of when band/cheerleaders/dance team will be at Tower City for Fan Fest on Saturday? I just happened to stumble on them last year and enjoyed the show.

They are updating schedules on the Tower City FB page.  They haven't put today's schedule out yet though:

Ohio averaging about 6.5 point favorite over WMU
Akron averaging about 4.5 point favorite over Kent

I'd take Ohio minus points and Kent with the 4.5

Can anyone who went last night confirm this? I'm trying to buy a pair of tix for tonight from the MAC site and want to make sure.

FWIW the OU website claims they still have tickets available if you go to the OU table inside the Q starting at 430. I'd just do that option but I'm not risking driving all the way up there without tickets...

We were C124 section, in front of the private boxes but above the lower, lower bowl. The average age of people in my vicinity was over 50...but I kinda dig hanging with Bobcats from all generations. The escalators were not working you had to take the elevators. It was my first trip to the Gund, err Q, and I found it to be a great arena.

I was in 124 and squarely in the section. Keep in mind Ohio will be able to sell tickets for tonight's game in the sections occupied by Kent St. last night. So basically they'll have one half of the Q and Akron gets the other.

I just couldn't make the 4 hour drive without tickets before-hand so I sucked it up and purchased some in section C125 from mac website. Row 20. Hopefully I'm with fellow Bobcats and they aren't too nosebleed.

Wehad 24th row 124 last night, if you head over to twitter and check my timeline you'll see the view from those seats.

You'll be in the mid-level but those are still good seats and right in the middle of Bobcats.

I doubt it, though the number of available tickets on mac website are getting pretty few and far between unless you want to sit in a corner or behind a basket.

I don't think so, or at least I hope not because that's what I'm going to do too.  I did the same thing yesterday and got good seats, so it should be fine.

The curtain brings capacity down to 11,751. They announced 10,324 for last night's session.

Last season the championship drew 10,301 after the semifinal session drew 8,503.

The whole arena...NO!  The un-curtained portions (lower and middle bowls; capacity around 12,000), possibly.

If they somehow sold out the lower and middle bowls...they would open the upper bowl....right?

I also am planning to just get tickets when I get up there...but starting to get a little worried.

In a 21,000 seat arena I can't imagine they would turn people away if the lower and middle bowls sell out; I have to think they'd open up the upper sections.

Not so sure about opening the upper bowl, guys. That requires ushers, concessions, security, etc. that wouldn't be scheduled.

Do not worry about tickets. Keep in mind there are roughly 3,000 KSU/WMU fans who were there last night that won't be there tonight.

But I could see 4,500+ Akron and Ohio people like me and 7 others with me tonight who didn't go last night but are tonight.  Saturday is a lot more doable than Friday, and championships are a lot more inviting.
