I am full agreement. I believe the basketball program will " go down hill" from here on out,  after a few years of moving forward.  I have been highly critical of coach Christian this year. I believe it was a poor decision by the AD and others involved in the hiring.
It was clearly event in the Akron game that coach Christian did have a clue or second have game strategy to counteract Akron coverage of Cooper. And we should have had a better season with the returning players.

He was not an effective coach at TCU and I have a strong "feeling" that the current players are not relating to his style.

It's not too late to fire him and unfortunately, eat his contract. Sometimes hiring experience VS a "youthful fresh approach" is not the best option.

Style as in "style of play" and/or gameplanning, or style as in demeanor?  I assume you don't mean style as in fashion.

Just curious as long as we are here. For those folks who have been here through the rise of JC...how would you define his Style?

TOS was all about the flex and the half court game

We all know Charlies Style at Fiami...how do folks view the future with regard to style based on what he ran at Kent and TCU?

Can't remember his style at Kent...dunno about the style at TCU.  Just hope he gets rid of that high post screen stuff.  I really like the offense Akron runs 'cause it gives them chances inside.  And, I already said I like the Wisconsin style with lots of player motion and ball movement and picks in the lane with back door cuts.  Of sourse, you gotta have bigs to play it.  I think JC pretty much ran the same stuff JG did with the high post pick (and once in a while we rolled).  Seems to me you end up with lots of guys sorta standing around with that style in their spot to get the three ball off of the pass.

I've said these thoughts to a few, and wondered about it all year.  I sum up the season this simply:  This is John Groce's roster.  His recruits, and kids that loved him, and primarily came here for him and the prior staff.

In Christian, we had a new coach, whom we mostly believed was a solid hire 11 months ago.  When he was brought in, he and his staff had to adapt the way he likes to do things to the current group of players that returned with the additions of Green & Wilkins.  I've wondered all year if we might not be better next year simply because we'll have a roster of "Christian's guys" instead of John's guys.  Next year, we'll be bigger, and equally as deep.  We won't have the brilliance of the best PG we've ever seen, but we also will have a team that our coach can shape into HIS team.

Maybe I'm off on this, but I truly believe this line of thinking plays a big role in how OUr team performed in tough games this year.

Logical assumptions made pre-season
Same team as last year.
Similar result as last year

New experienced coach.
Similar result as last year

Actual result
No similar result to last year

The only change was the coach
Was this a poor choice by the AD?
It is also logical to assume that next year will be a down year due to graduation.
How will we all feel then about this hire?

Can't wait to see next years schedule filled with all cream puffs, in the OOC segment to try to boost the W-L record.
There will be low expectations for sure.
Pre-season will have us in the lower tier group of the conference. Attendance will drop, student interest will follow as well.

The future does not appear to be bright.

GO BOBCATS

Quiz: What is the only difference between last year and this year right now?

Answer: Two points!  This year we are 24-9, shared the MAC Regular Season Championship and unfortunately lost in a must win to get to the tournament.

Last year at this same point we were 27-7 and had just won the must win game to get in the tournament.  Then we made the most of the opportunity we had.  Had the game shifted by TWO points, we would be where we are this year.  Last year was a slightly better record, but probably a slightly easier non-conference schedule.

When you boil it all down, despite the fact that it feels a whole hell of a lot different it really was not a whole lot different.

Congrats to the seniors for all the hard work they have put in through their career and the mark they have left on this program.  Regardless of whether you think the future is bright or not, it is absolutely brighter thanks to what this group had accomplished.

Congrats to the coaching staff!  Did they inherit a senior laden team with the sky as the ceiling?  Absolutely.  While that is certainly something you would like to inherit, it is also very difficult.  If you win, the previous staff, the players and their experience get the credit and if you lose you get all the blame.  I thought they did an outstanding job through this seaosn and based on the recruits they have pulled, I think we have a bright future.  Let's not forget that Christian went through this season operating the Groce system because it fit this team.  That is a tough thing to do.  A lot of coaches would have been to arrogant to do that and would have blown things up and seen a possible disaster.  I applaud this staff for the job they did because again, the only difference is TWO POINTS!

If you think that the diff between this season and last is two points, you ain't been watching the same basketball that I have.
