NCAA to NIT, gotta love the move forward in the program.

Yeah. Nobody ever wins a National Title then heads to the NIT the next season ever . . .

You seem like a miserable human being.  JSF is exactly right.  Sports, especially mid-major college basketball, is just not for you.

What is wacko? Did this program move forward this year? Are we in a better place moving forward ? Diid this program capitalize on an opportunity to take this program to a new level. NO!

You realize the next level is not a good season, right? The next level is building a consistently good program. Changing coaches is a huge barrier in the way of going to the next level even when you get a good one especially when the new one's style is significanly different than the first. Akron is ahead of us on the trek because they have been able to keep a really good coach for 9 seasons. That is a magic elixir that is tough to come by at a mid major school. Whether anyone on here likes it our not changing coaches is a big deal. Sometimes it can work out spectacularly immediately but more often than not there is an adjustment period. Unfortunately for us it was this year. I would have loved to see some of you guys run Coach K or Dean Smith out of town on a rail after their first couple of seasons.

Yes, this has been a somewhat disappointing season after last year but it's still be an overall successful year. We won a share of the regular season conference championship with our best conference record ever. Maybe that is a sign that we are at the next level if this year is considered to be a disaster by a lot of people.
I think Christian could be the kind of coach who is here a long time if he wants to be and does well. He has been to the other side, so to speak, and chose to come here. I see a lot of parallels to Solich, and I'm okay with that.

Also, Bryant's accomplishments this year are actually fairly impressive, whether you'd like to admit it or not.

Tim O'Shea has silenced my juvenile taunting in a quick hurry. He deserves some major accolades for what he did this year. I didn't think they'd win double-digit games for six or seven years.

My take on the Akron game: They beat us three times. This wasn't a fluke. Ohio was not as good as Akron this year. It's not an especially frustrating loss to me past the first gutpunch reaction. They were better.

Ohio did what few teams can do: be really good midstream a coaching change. To win 23 or 24 games with a first-year coach is incredibly difficult. I think it shows just how flexible both the players and coaching staff were to get to the MAC title game and get a share of the conference crown.

This one hurt like a band-aid for me: a quick rip and it's gone. I never felt like this team fully found its momentum, so expecting another long run in the NCAA tournament was unrealistic.

A nice run in the NIT would cap an amazing four-year stretch here. Then it's time to circle the wagons and rebuild on the run. Still try to get to 20-22 wins while in the post-DJ era.

Not sure I see it that way. he has been to a school that does not value basketball and got a big amount of cash dangled in front of him to return to a safe place in an area he is familiar with a program in place. I know I am not turning that down.......there is just not a real choice there. You just do it.

Left a team moving into a multi-bid conference for similar if not less money here. Obviously nobody knows what will happen, but that move coupled with his various ties to the University and area seem like an indicator to me. Maybe not, we'll see.

Thanks for a measured and rational post. I think the conference is going to be pretty wide open next year, and there's no reason to think things we can't be in the thick of a good race.

Against a great frontcourt like Akron, our only hope is hitting outside shots. When they don't fall, this team has no Plan B because there's little size and little rebounding ability. That was true last year too. One difference is that the shots fell last year. Another huge difference is that Akron got a lot better last from last season to this one. All their key returners and their new players made for a much better team (Treadwell is my early pick for POY). I'd argue that only Keely made a similar jump for us, and we all know a couple of guys slid backwards for one reason or another. People want to find blame for it, but I think their players just had higher ceilings (Marshall isn't even close to his potential yet).

It's been a great run, and while I was bitterly disappointed Saturday, I have some perspective today. I'll enjoy the NIT regardless of the outcome and I'll sip the bitter drink of watching the superior team represent the MAC in the NCAAs.
