Just wanted to throw this out there... Wasn't the point of Jimmy 'Smarter than Bobcat Nation' Schauss hiring a head coach like JC over someone that we all wanted like Jeff Boals to maximize our senior-laden, NCAA-tournament-tested roster? I seem to think that was the rationale, just wanted to throw that out there to the masses.

For a 1st post I think you missed a lot of FACTS. Is it JC's fault Ivo had a bad year? Is it JC's fault Nick hurt his hand and had an off shooting year? Is it JC's fault that Walt had a year perhaps less than what we might have expected? Is it JC's fault that TJ had injuries to overcome?

Sorry, but Boals wasn't the right choice. And for those who keep ripping JC ... uhh, he's won almost 75% of his MAC games. And Groce; he won 53%, about the same percentage as O'Shea.  We won a couple games at the right time last year and that's why some of you worship Groce. Sure the publicity in post season is great but Groce never had a 14-2 MAC record. JC is the only Ohio coach to ever achieve that .. and in his 1st year.

Am I missing something, is Boals coaching a team this year?  What has he done this year?

Exactly the opposite.  Boals or Ford would've been the choice in the scenario you presented. Instead of going with an unproven guy who would've essentially just let the team run itself, he picked the winningest coach in the conferences history with a proven track record.

Welcome to the board.

Managed to misspell Schaus and his own name. Impressive.

I think Boals might have been a good hire but we have no idea if that is true.  As for Christian we also have no idea if it was a good hire yet.  I don't think you can judge him on one year.   But there are a heck of a lot more question marks surrounding Boals than there Christian.   We don't even know if Boals is a good coach or not.  We like to think so because he was a very smart player but who knows.  We also don't know if he would stick around here any longer than Groce did.  There's a much better chance that Christian will.  Give the man some time for Pete's sake.

I agree.  Wait until sometime in February next season, after a team he gets to mold to the way he wants has played half the conference season.  Then make judgements on how good or bad you think he and his staff are.

The thing is nobody knows if Boals is a good head coach. Maybe he is. But we can't act like he's a sure thing.

And, we did win our first regular season title in like 19 years so its not like we stunk up the Convo or anything. Right?

I always marvel at people who know exactly how a season would have turned out if someone who didn't get the job  would have been the coach.

I would be very happy to go .500 in the MAC each and every year if we consistently won NCAA tournament games.

Indeed, we did not stink up The Convo.

Except for 'kron.  And we stunk up at 'kron and Gund and Denver, etc.

But it's too early to judge JC.  Let's see if he can  and bring some unique style, something undeniable (boards and/or d-pressure and/or whatever) next year and if he can manage situations better than he did the power forward this year.

Also, dismissing Groce because he only won games at key times is not a real bright approach...given that winning games at key times is the heart of the task.

Still having trouble why so many are excited about sharing a MAC title with a team that we lost to not once..not twice..but three times. Sorry guys, but this co-championship thing is inflated and overrated at best. Next time I go to the Convo, I'll be staring at the 2012 Sweet 16 banner, not the 2013 Co-MAC champs banner.

When three of your top performing seniors from a sweet 16 team have sub par season, yes it is probably the coaches fault.  The trend is your friend, or in this case our enemy. Watch the replay of the Denver game on ESPN, listen to the analyst tear apart our defense.  The same defense that was ranked 9th in the nation against 3 point D one year earlier.

Yes, the co league title was nice, but it sure lonely when everyone is at the Big Dance on Friday and you are home alone.

The lack of D against Denver isn't the fault of JC. Kids from 5th grade on up know what the word "help" means. It is not JC's fault the guys on the court failed to execute the most basic aspects of defense. Just as it's not JC's fault they hit 5% of their 3's in the Akron game.

I'll repeat to you .. JC has won 75% of MAC games, Groce won 53%. Get  over it; Groce hit a hot streak. If you want to judge 2 coached on a few post season games that's your choice.  I'd rather look at a longer term as to how each did.

Explain to me how TJ 's injury is JC's fault. And how it is the fault of JC that Nick injured his hand.  And it is JC's fault that Ivo had a year that was less than last year? Same with Walt? Not everyone shows year over year improvement. Some peak early.

Have you ever played Division I level sports? I'll guess not .....

Not taking a side here but just hypothetically is it possible that the plan may be flawed? That the prep was not adequate?. ThAT not only did your plan not expose their weaknesses but you also did not take away their strengths.

It did seem to me that a team that was always in position to do both a year back was rarely in a position to expose or take away all year.. ..maybe I am wrong but it seemed we got lit up a lot this year.

I agree with the use of fundamentals but do you know if those kids were told not to help or to always help or how the pack line and mid court were to be played? Whether they were switching on top or what? I mean you put it back on the kids but I am not sure there is not a problem with the scheme or the scout or any number of things.

Just trying to look at all angles.....I am not smart enough to have those answers.

O I get that ....just saying that there are many things that may be unseen that have to be evaluated .. Over helping was something we did a few years back pretty consistently. Stay at home was the mantra for a while.
