I don't know how successful he will be but he comes from a great coaching family, was smart as hell on the court and should breath some much needed life into that program.

His only coaching experience is three years as an assistant under his brother at Wagner and Rhode Island so there's some risk involved, but that's a real big name for them to get.

Big name, will probably be a good recruiter but I dont think he is the sharpest tool in the shed.

The O Zone needs to remind him of how he got diarhhea in the 1990 tournament against Arkansas and UNLV and had to call a TO to run to the bathroom.

Or there is those two rings he has and the major huevos shot against Vegas in the semi-final game.

46-44 as an DI assistant. 8-21 at URI this year. Zero postseason appearances.

Semeka Randall had a storied basketball career. Didn't make her a decent coach in the MAC.

Time will tell.

Can see the OZone asking which is better: being the hurler or the Hurley.

He does have the name, Dad's high school connections, and a LOT coming back for Buffalo next year.  They might have the 2nd best talent in the league when the season starts next year.  We will find out VERY early on if he can coach or not.

You have to think he's learned some things along the way from both his dad and Coach K.

Certainly some risks there but I think this is an AMAZING hire.

Boy, I don't know about this one.  May be awesome.  But, is he ready to run a program?

Great hoop experience, even greater life lessons, high energy, these are all things that I know about him.  Question is, is there a HS junior or senior prospect out there who even knows who Bobby Hurley is, much less his heritage?

Gotta give UB credit for rollin' the dice again.  It hasn't worked for them yet but this might be the one.

Wait?  Isn't Cincinnati the Queen City?

I'm not really sure how this sends the message that Buffalo is serious.  I would have gotten that message if they had gone out and hired Bobby Knight or, maybe, Tubby Smith but Bobby Hurley?  I don't see that.  Still, I'm excited to see what happens and I hope someone in the OZone is doing their homework when the Bulls come to the Convo next year.

Well Bobcatbob, maybe folks mean they are taking it serious for a MAC program.  We all know nobody in the MAC, including Ohio, has the funds to consistently be a top mid-major program.  The coaches will always leave.

That's exactly what it means. Nobody thinks UB will ever become a top mid-major but by this hire, they are showing that they want to start winning MAC Tournament titles and stop being content with decent regular seasons.

Witherspoon didn't know how to win when it mattered the most, much like Larry Hunter here at Ohio. That's one of the reasons that new AD Danny White fired Witherspoon in addition to him wanting to hire his own man for the job.

side note: Buffalo is also known as the Queen City
