App State and Ga. Southern

MAC should have looked hard at App. St for the football - would have immediately led the league in attendance.

Both those schools fit much better in the Sun Belt footprint.  Both are good additions for them and now gives them the twelve teams they need for a conference championship game.

Still, it highlights that Sun Belt is adding a quality school with App St, and we're adding UMass for football, and tolerate EMU in all sports.

There's no way that Appalachian State, a thoroughly southern school, would have considered the MAC.  Their fans would have been dissatisfied.

Counting only the men's sports, the last time OU won the Reese Trophy was in 1971.  Eastern has won it four times since then and actually finished higher than OU did in 2012.

The Reese Trophy is a nice little trophy to hang up in someones office, but do not pretend like it matters.  I am a fan of men's cross country, but if men's cross country is the reason we are justifying spending on the D-1 level in athletics, someone doesn't get it.
Football and men's basketball are the only sports worth talking about when discussing what we are looking for out of our conference. The MAC is not getting the job done. If the MAC is set on a competitive "all sports" league, then I believe it is time to move on from the MAC.
I enjoy some of the Olympic sports we compete in, but they are not going to provide the exposure we are looking for when we spend huge amounts of money on D-1 athletics.

I was only responding to the EMU in all sports comment.  As for whether it matters or not, every AD in the conference will list that very high on their resume.  It must mean somethiing to someone.

The Sun Belt has it right.  This is how you add to the stature of your Conference.  Add at the top/middle.  Not the MAC approach, add to the bottom!
