It was bitter sweet to see John get his fourth NCAA Tournament win today.

I am proud and happy for him, but it ain't quite right.

Just realized it is very possible that no coach will ever lead the Bobcats to three NCAA Tourney victories.
(I hope this is not the case)

I feel the same way about Groce too.  Wish he were still at Ohio but that ship"s long sailed.

I do think there are more NCAA Tourbey wins in our future though.

Couldn't decide myself.....found myself rooting for Colorado mostly, not sure why.   Mostly don't care, he's not one of us anymore!

Not sure what this is suppose to mean.  No coach will stick around long enough to get three NCAA tourney wins?

So, let me get this straight. A coach can take over a new program, without his players, and lead them to an NCAA Tourney win? A team that many experts say wouldn't make the NCAA Tournament?

Shocking.

Maybe there is something to this "coaching" thing after all?

A win is a win!!! After looking at all the post. I must say what more do you need to be happy? We got into the Dance, won. Had a great year under a 1st yr coach. Maui champs, beat #1 team at home. Beat Gonzag at there place. Was ranked, started 14-0. After all the posts last spring on weather JG was the right pick, #3. Not sure what will make people happy and believe in JG!! Missed free throws, kick outs on open look, poor shot selection, on and on..... A win in the dance is a bonus!!! Anyway you can get it!!! Nothin but love for JG!!

My point is whether we have a coach in Athens for one year or one hundred years I doubt they will get three NCAA tournament wins in their Bobcat coaching career.  Hope I am wrong.

You must mean wins in three different tourneys.  Groce beat G-town ('10), Mich & USF ('12).

I hope Illinois win tonight. My buddy leaves for Vegas on Wednesday, any Groce NCAA game is worth betting on.

Have to respectfully disagree with that.  The good ones and sometimes the bad ones leave something of themselves behind and certainly take something with them.  Groce did some of each and did Danny.  In my mind, they'll always be Bobcats to a certain degree.

Nice job by Groce and staff but tip your hat to Miami for making some big plays. Could've folded.

Missd the chance to foul the big fella. Very good game. WHo woulda thunk it ...the team was not supposed to get out of the Big ten cellar this year. Great Job Coach.

Not sure how best to phrase this.  Let me try two ways.  Nothing wrong with a coach who gets all that can reasonably be expected out a bunch of young players.  Nothing wrong with a coach who gets at least what is to be reasonably expected out of his youngsters.

So, you're telling me the Illini faithful will want to fire Groce because he didn't even make it as far as he did last year?

Yep, this is what I miss the most from him/last year to this year. Seems like Groce has a knack for always keeping his teams within reach of a victory. We(Ohio) missed that this year.

Honestly I only care about his first 3 NCAA tournament wins as a head coach.  Sure the more success he has Ohio will get a mention every now and again.  I think I want more then just a mention.  I want the guy who got choked up on national television talking about Athens being special.  I want another coach with that passion and decides to stay because Athens IS a special place.

Watching last nights game,  this years Illinois team and last years Ohio team looked quite similar.  Both played tenacious defense, and both could take a punch and get back up. I guess I am disappointed that the upperclassmen on our team this year could not maintain the tenacious defense ,that JG had taught them during his stay.

Next year it is the JC show, should be interesting.

I think JG got so choked up because he knew he was gone.  There are few non-Big 6 schools where coaches might want to stay, and Ohio should be one.

So how many coaches have taken teams from two different schools to the 16 in back-to-back years?

Folks, this is one reason we need to rally around J.C.   He wants to win, and build at Ohio.  He does not want to use Ohio as a stepping stone.  He understands that you can win big here, without  selling your soul to the devil.  If you can evaluate talent, and find kids that can succeed at this level, and then recruit them....you have a head start !   Once you get them here, then you have to help them improve !  At this level, you either get better, or you fall behind, so you have to be able to coach the kids that you get !!!  He has proven that he can do the above.  Plus, he can practice coach, and game coach !  We have a chance to build the program in the direction that Danny saw for us.  Not just a MAC contender, but a program that could dominate the MAC, and have a great chance to DANCE, EVERY YEAR.    That is what J.C. sees for Ohio.  We need to jump on the bus, and help him get there. !

Not sure that JC proved the ability to do the words in bold above this year.

Look who takes the top spot.  JC wasn't angry enough for the boys in green and white to respond.
