One's decisions in life show one's priorities. Is that a difficult concept?

Not difficult at all. It would have been financially irresponsible for Coach Groce to not have as a priority his and his staff's families best interests..............
Family's best interest = more money. This is a universal maxim that applies to every conceivable situation? Is this an example of Kant's universal maxim? Please enlighten me. Has Shaka Smart violated this maxim? Is he, therefore, immoral? There are lots of philosophical questions raised here that require more than formulaic answers.

Clarification for those who need it: This discussion has moved  beyond the particulars of the Groce to Illinois issue.  We are now looking at the role of pecuniary interest (pardon the horrible pun) in a broader context.

That's simple, Coach Smart had the things he needed to stay, facilities building a 16 million dollar practice facility for basketball (Groce wanted one of these are was essentially laughed at), they just opened a 30.1 Million dollar arena, VCU is the biggest show in town (not sharing with football, and never underestimate the draw of not having football), and long term cash, that though was not the yearly amount was twice as long, and he just upped it again and is guaranteed for another 10 seasons.  That is generational money we are talking about, not the type of money the MAC throws around.

And not taking advantage of the opportunity such a move would provide for his family, his children's families and his grandchildren's families would have been irresponsible.

Ohio could get rid of football altogether, knock down Peden Stadium and make it a meadow, and I still don't see them EVER paying a basketball coach $1.2 million/yr. or more in basketball unless there's a sugardaddy donor out there.  I just don't see it.

What if we knock down Peden, the airport, and The Ridges, turn them into horizontal well platforms, THEN use the proceeds of all that to buy Powerball tickets? We'd have a shot then, right?

All coaches get fired at some point. So, is it better to make 400k/year for 5 years and get fired or make 1.6M a year for 5 years and get fired?
