DJ's team (Norfolk Sports Club) lost their opener 91-67.  (Box Score) DJ had 3 points (1-6 from 3, did not attempt a 2 point shot) 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 TOs, a block and a steal.  He would have been matched up with Elijah Johnson (Kansas) Mark Lyons (Arizona) and Ian Clark (Belmont).  The team shot 24-74 for the game.  They were down 51-22 at the half, so I'm sure they were all chucking up 3s at that point.

They play again today at 3:15 PM.  (Schedule and Results)  They are playing a team with a back court of Rodney McGruder (Kansas State) Vincent Council (Providence all-time assist leader) and Kenny Boyton (Florida).

Chris Evans is also playing this week.  His team (Portsmouth Partnership) won their opener 90-89.

I'll predict that Evans has a better shot at the NBA than DJ or Zeke. From the few times I saw Evans play I thought he had more of an NBA game.

Perhaps. Zeke will likely be drafted though...Evans is Free Agent at best.

I was at both games last night.

DJ didn't look comfortable for most of the first game. He got his sea legs towards the end of the game with a nice 3 pointer, but was otherwise a little tentative and sloppy. He can definitely play with those guys, but the usual swagger wasn't there for some reason. I would have liked to have seen the chip on the shoulder that we all got used to the past couple seasons. He didn't seem intimidated, but he also wasn't acting like the best player in the building - which I tend ot think fuels him sometimes.

His team got throttled by the way. Best player on the floor was Brandon Davies (BYU), 2nd best was probably Will Clyburn (Iowa State). Third best Mohamadu Yarou (Villanova). Other than that, nobody that exciting. Jack Cooley from ND is getting accolades this morning, but I wasn't that impressed.

Coach Christian was there watching, which I thought was really cool. Great support for a former player that is already done with his eligibility.

DJ's team was coached by Antoine Walker. Pretty obvious he had a bond with DJ and DJ Richardson (Illinois) because of the Chicago thing.

I stayed for half of the 2nd game and actually sat with Chris Evans parents. He was one of the better players in the game, but you have to think about who he's going to be asked to matchup with in the NBA. He's not a guard, doesn't shoot well from the outside, and has a pretty skinny frame for his size (imo).

The number of International and NBA scouts there was staggering. It was truly a basketball trade show. Additionally lots of college coaches as well. Cool experience, glad I did it.

Thanks for the link.  I'm watching the start of his last game and so far he is 3-3 from 3 and I think 1 assist.  Box score should be up shortly.

Edit: It's already up. 20 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds, 2 steals and no turnovers.  Way to go out with a bang DJ!

Good to see D.J. finish on a strong note.

In other news, D.J. measures in at 5'10.25", making him the shortest player in Portsmouth, but he does have a 77" wingspan.

Glad to see DJ end up with good numbers in Portsmouth.  Now it will be interesting to hear or see if this had an impact on scouts and GMs.
