This is an opening for Ohio.  Vandy freshman forward Shelden Jeter from western PA isn't being allowed a transfer to Pitt for whatever reason by a coach who has never put a "block" on a transfer school in the past that I can recall.

This is a huge opportunity for Ohio to pick up an athlete with tremendous potential.  Try to alert whoever you know in the coaching staff about this.

Was #34 forward in America in h.s. and a top-150 player...

He was mainly recruited by Big Ten and Big East schools it looks like. Is there any particular reason you think he might want to come here?

#1 - he is leaving a very preppy private school and Ohio is anything but that.

#2 - Athens Ohio  is not terribly far from western PA where he is from
(not as close as WVU or Kent or Akron, but not horribly far)

#3 - word is that defense was not the strongest phase of his game and when I was at the Ohio-Belmont game, Ohio didn't bother to play any defense.

I say again, why can Vanderbilt stop this young American from doing what he wants?

Yeah, not to steer the conversation away from how Ohio can take advantage of the NCAA's Draconian policies, but holy God is the NCAA backwards and corrupt.

Because he signed a contract to play for Vanderbilt. A contract is a binding agreement. If he really wants to play for Pitt, he can sit out a year and pay tuition at Pitt.

What makes you think Vandy would allow him to transfer to Ohio?

If they don't give a release to that school, he would have to pay his own way during the redshirt year of sitting out.  He could still attend Pitt.  No schollie that first year.

In 14 years at VU, Stallings has never "blocked" a school from a kid's list.  This is a first.
That includes the much higher profile DeMarre Carroll now of the Utah Jazz who transferred to Mizzou.

There was lots of chatter from Pitt people weeks before his transfer was announced or a release requested or granted that he was headed there.  Contact between a school and another team's player is strictly off limits.  Remember the DJ Cooper articles about former ut vol coach Bruce Pearl and others attempting to get him to transfer?  Not allowed.

If Pitt appeals this wouldn't there be the possibility of a "tampering" incrimination that would end up in front of the NCAA?  Stallings has not had a hint of scandal or controversy as coach at VU or anywhere else.   While Pitt fans are pi55ing and moaning over it, the athletic dept. hasn't said a word about it that I know of.

Because Pitt is the only school being singled out as off limits.

Stallings would have no issue with the kid landing at Ohio.  Or West Virginia.  Or Penn State.  Or wherever.

What other schools are on his list?

Maybe your comment about defense is tongue in cheek...but if not...wouldn't it be reasonable to assume that the coaching staff would seek out good defensive players to correct that as a weakness...I certainly don't think we have a culture of "no defense" under Christian.

That comment was mostly out of the frustration from sitting there and watching Belmont's offense cut the Bobcat's "D" to ribbons that night.

It was quite a bummer especially after how the Bobcats played in the NCAA regional the year before here.  This town was expecting a great game, not a blow-out.

Well, anyway, I hope they take a run at Jeter even though I hear something about a buddy of his transferring to Duquesne which is also in his neck of the woods.

Despite what Jeff Goodman's list says, I am assuming we have no open scholarships until I hear otherwise from the Athletic Department, Arkley, or anyone close to the team for that matter.
