Really appreciate what J.A. Adande wrote today about momentum and the idea one game carries over into the next: http://espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2013/story/_/id/9282165/c...

IMHO

I think that is definitely where the college game differs from the pros. Collegiate teams are somewhat emotionally based and momentum definitely plays into that.

I do believe at the college level programs have MOMENTUM and that waxes and wanes. IU is on a big upswing with program momentum. After a decade of seeing guys like Oden, Conley, Dom James, McWhiney and others leave the state they are now getting top flight guys looking at playing in Bloomington. Creighton seems to be finding some players while Northern Iowa is on a downswing. Michigan is stealing kids and after 2 decades of nothing suddenly find themselves with the entire program on the uptick. How long those last is anyones guess and is somewhat incumbent on how long the coaches stay.

At the pro level the talent is across the board better and the consistency is better from night to night. I am not sure about home court advantage is some markets. I watched the fans at OKC support their team even after the loss while I fully expect boos and catcalls should hte Knicks similarly bow out tonite.

I am with the idea that there is very little hangover game to game and there is more dependency on switcing schemes and making adjustments to what the opposition is doing. At the end of the day in a series the better talent will usually win unless there are bad mismatches and problems with personnel in a given scheme. Coaches at this level are pretty consistent and astute when managing their players and gmae planning.

Nah.  I totally believe momentum carries over game to game and/or day to day.  From pro sports to pee wee sports.  It happens.  Is it going to last a full NBA season?  No.  But, if sure lasts more than just one night.  What's next, denying there's such as thing as a clutch player?
