Should current Louisville coaches be featured on whiskey bottles?  Maker's Mark has already featured Charlie Strong on its bottles and now it's Rick Pitino's turn.  Seems inconsistent for Pitino or the school or both to be making money off, or otherwise promoting, a product that most of the kids who play the sport aren't legally allowed to use.  It's also inconsistent with the school's anti-alcohol policies.  Money talks; principles walk.

This could be one of those topics that just takes off.  Does Louisville have anti-alcohol policies or responsible drinking policies?  One could make the case that a coach's picture on or in association with any product that leads to health issues is inappropriate.  That would include obesity causing sugared cereals and calorie collection establishments such as McDonalds.  One can make the case that no one put a box of cereal to their head and pulled the trigger, but as Alison Kraus once sang, "he put a bottle to his head and pulled the trigger."  I'm not comparing the effects of alcohol abuse to obesity but they are both huge problems in this country so where do you draw the line on which a coach should lend his image to?

If it's not acceptable for coaches to be featured on bourbon bottles, then public outcry should pressure the university to stop the practice--as opposed to congress drawing up legislation...

Well.  I don't see the big deal here.  Bourbon is legal.  Its perfectly fine when consumed properly.  Who cares?

Now I'll spend the afternoon wondering if I still have all the ingredients to make a nice Manhatten tonight.  (Hate having to buy my booze at Kroger.)

In the last 35 years the state store in Athens has been in 3 locations:  on East State next to premier video, Lucky Dog and now Kroger.   The old Sutton's One Stop to which JSF refers has been torn down and the guy who owns the pigstye is putting up apartments.

Wasserman recently told me he was going to rebuild and open a beer/wine shop there again also. High proof spirits have never been sold at that location

Its quite the embarrassment in my eyes. The planning commission completely dropped the ball and then the city was too stubborn to admit they had dropped the ball so they wasted millions in taxpayer money on court cases they had NO CHANCE in winning.

Sorry for that little rant. On the topic, I agree with Mr. Fox. If the public has an issue with this, Makers Mark will make the correct business decision to appease its customers and remove these controversial figures from their products.

It's about to get worse with the recent primary elections.  In a conversation with the newest member to win primary election, they now have four votes who will/would vote against the four foot balcony.

There was a small blurb about this in the Wall St. Journal yesterday. Apparently, proceeds will go in part (didn't say how much of a part) to pay for an $8M academic center for athletes.

For some reason, it being the state of Kentucky makes it different to me.  Second most-poured-on-Corn-Flakes liquid in the state.
