Does anyone think that Ohio is set for a wilderness campaign next year? JC won the MAC regular season in 2013 and is returning a lot of experience from that team. The drop off might not be as significant as believed once the new fully arrives arrives.

He was pretty great at the Cleveland caravan stop. He all but promised a good season next year. He said to ignore where we get picked pre-season, and that he was very confident in the guys returning and the new ones coming in. He also said he's excited that all five positions are up in the air, and that kids will have to earn playing time.

Meh, Ohio State may not be a Top 25 team at the beginning of the season. I would expect Craft to be the best player on the floor. Ross, Smith, and Thompson are nice players, but none of them scare me. Our roster won't be ideal compared to the last couple of years, but at least this won't be a Buckeye team with Thomas, Sullinger, Oden, or Conley type talent.
Ohio State will be in the top 10 when we play them.

That one I blame on Hunter.  He had several years to prepare and target recruiting to have the team on the upswing for that game and instead he had the worst collection of misfits ever to play Ohio basketball suit up against UK.  Hyperbole, maybe, but it speaks the truth also.

You don't honestly expect a coach to key his entire recruiting philosophy around one game? Sure it's UK, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't mean a whole lot.

It's college basketball. One loss, even if it's by 35 points, doesn't mean anything. This is good news if it comes to fruition. College football? Then you worry about your team being prepared to play a top team and derailing a season.

I see no downside to this. No one else in the state of Ohio can get Ohio State to schedule them since the debacle at Savage Hall. Ohio might. That's a good thing.

This is stupid. Way to wait until DJ and company are gone and we're searching for a new identity!

Agreed my man.   And the outcome of this game will just make me even a tad more angry that my seat license went up 75%.

I am confused.  I thought we want a better OOC schedule.

Maybe we do, except when we don't.

I was fine with last season's schedule.

I look at that roster and I don't see a top 10 team, do you? Maybe 15-25. They have Craft and a bunch of role players who are going to be forced to be a guy. They very well could evolve into a top 10 team by season's end. They could be one of the 10 best teams in the country next year, maybe... but I don't see Week 1 rankings reflecting that.

When you have UK in the house, and you've known they were coming for a good long while, my answer is a resounding YES!  Can you imagine the excitement it would have created and the lasting impression it would have made on the local populace to have beaten UK in the Convo?  They'd still be talking about it at the Maplewood and Mama Renie's Pizzaria.

Keep in mind MFRONE's first love is OSU.  The truth is probably somewhere in between.

I do.  So do a few "experts" (here and here).  They still return 4 starters, and Ross is probably the most talented player on the team.  I fully expect they'll be somewhere between #7 - #9 to open the season.

I'm very excited we get them on the slate.  As someone else already said, nobody else in the state can say the same.  Good for us.

I also wouldn't be shocked in the slightest if this matchup is a nod to the Kellogg family.  Nick's a senior and Clark is still very much a part of the Buckeye family.

If not, it's still nice that Nick and Jon get to play in their hometowns.  Stevie, too.

LaQuinton Ross will be the guy. He'll be better than Craft. He'll be first team Big 10.

*Spoken as someone who dislikes the Buckeyes, but very much enjoyed watching the Big 10 play basketball this season.

Anyone who feels Ohio misses a step next year is misguided.

Jon Smith, Nick Kellogg and TJ Hall all would've started every game at every MAC program outside of Akron and Ohio last year.

We also are bringing in a ton of talent. This program has hit reload not rebuild status....

I'm a lot less concerned now than I was at the start of last season.  Stevie really matured last year and is poised for a stellar junior season.  And now that everybody's had a season to buy into JC's program, we should have a pretty cohesive team.

I think a lot of people assume this will be a down year because we lost so much, without realizing what's returning and what's in the wings. OHIO will surprise lots of folks.

And it sounds like it’s wide open for playing time which should make for an exciting practice season. Bases only on what I’ve read and heard, and not having seen any of the new players other than a little footage, here’s my depth chart prediction:

 point guard:           Willis- Taylor

 shooting guard:    Kellogg – Wilkins

small forward:      Hall – Carty- Wingfield

 power forward:    Ndour- Setty-Campbell

 center:                    Smith-Mompremier

I think OHIO will go 10 deep next year. Looking forward to this season

I have never seen a player with as many different nicknames as Ricardo Johnson.

I think it'll be interesting how JC manages Hall/Rico/Kellogg this year... I think all 3 are amazing defensively. I kinda like when they are on the floor together, even though that means one is at the PF spot making us a little small...

Anytime we can play OSU in football and basketball we should. Even if it's in Columbus every year. Heck, I would open with them every year in both sports at their place if it were possible.
