Jeff Goodman says he'll use the 5th-year transfer rule and be available next season.

This will raise a few eyebrows

"After meeting with DeAndre, I have decided it is in our program's and his best interest that he seek opportunities elsewhere," fourth-year Marshall Coach Tom Herrion said. "We appreciate his contributions to our team and wish him the best in his future."

Kid has some talent and will land squarely on his feet.

How do you go from being an academic non qualifier to getting the benefit of grad school? there is a discussion in here somewhere.

First, gotta give the guy credit for getting his degree, especially if he was non-qualifier coming in.

Does the 5th year rule require graduate studies?  The article just talks about "another area of academics".  Maybe enrolling in a second degree program elsewhere is enough for a year, i.e. something that that the U of Herdistan doesn't offer

I have no problem voicing my opinion that Herrion is the worst basketball Coach in the country at any level. Yes, any level.

His teams are undisciplined, fundamentally unsound, and completely out of control. Marshall needs to reverse course from this guy as soon as humanly possible.

You hafta love the wording that bornacatfan quoted above.  Reeks of the "wishing him well in his future endeavors".

While Kane has been a discipline/attitude problem at Marshall, he might be able to have a stellar final year if he finds the right fit.

Why even put "Kane" in that sentence. The whole team is a bunch of discipline problems while Herrion is Chief Enabler.

Very curious. Kane was a vocal supporter of Herrion this past season when Herrion was getting a ton of crap from fans and media. WSAZ had more than one interview with Kane where he talked Herrion up ... I remember a clip from one press conference where Kane actually said, "Stop picking on my coach. He's a good coach."

Wonder what happened?

That's been my observation, too.  When his team was getting creamed, which was a frequent experience last year, he was often caught on camera with that "deer in the headlights" look.  I don't think I've ever seen a coach -- at any level -- that appeared to be so totally out of his element.  It seemed to me that BL, Borna, Monroe and I could have taken over halfway through the season and produced a better result.  That would be Borna as HC, and the other three as assistants.  In fact, I think the head janitor in Henderson Arena could probably have done a better job.

after he took that flop on the sidelines he should have been fired on the spot. Tells you all you need to know about his character, imo.

There are a few good kids on that roster.  Dennis Tinnon was one of them.  His story is inspiring.  But overall...this team has been a train wreck the past few years.  Chuck Landon et al can't seem to see that "superior talent" doesn't always produce wins.

They're replacing Trey Zeigler with DeAndre Kane, that sounds like an upgrade to me.

+1

I will say for me, one of the best memories from the 2012-13 season will be the manner in which OUr guys completely dismantled them.  It gave me a grin to see all the folks leave the Convo to go back to Huntington shaking their heads at the result of the game.
