Wonder if he'll end up with JG. If he does do they grant a waiver since he'd be closer to home?

That's brutal.  WMU was going to be tough to handle with Whittington and Paul.

The one line about his Mom being so involved in his career may be telling.

Brandon Paul, his brother, played for Illinois. We all know whose at Illinois don't we? He had three guys transfer out and has room.....just sayin. I thought he was going to be the x factor next year in the MAC along with Treadwell (who will surely suffer a bit without zeke's attention) and McCrea (who has nothing around him).

Another "wishing him well in his future endeavors."

The MAC is CURSED.  CURSED, I tell you.  This league is bleeding and loses good talent every year.  The kid at NIU, now Paul...

It was fun being a solid mid major league with the likes of the West Coast Conference, Missouri Valley and Colonial.  Now it's "hello, OVC and MACC"!

That really sucks. He could have been a two-time MAC POTY imo.

Here's a nugget from Graham Couch:

---

Saw this thread and thought I'd chime in.

Paul was a Larry Farmer guy. It's the reason WMU landed him and, Farmer's relationship with Paul's family is the only reason he considered WMU. Notice, no other mid-majors were in play. His family thought he was a high-major talent. Turns out he was.

As soon as Farmer left, I thought this could happen. My guesses, DePaul, Illinois or N.C. State (and probably in that order).

Ultimately, this again comes down to resources. Pay Larry Farmer an additional $50K and he's still there and so is Paul. Do the same with Cornell Mann a few years back and other developments might have gone in WMU's favor.

If I were coaching there, I'd push to have fewer assistants but double the pay of the ones I couldn't afford to lose.

Hope all is well. Different world up here in Lansing. MSU's athletes aren't much better than WMU's, but the heavy media coverage lets them think they are.

Difference is Paul is actually a good player. That hurts.

That $50,000 that could have been added to Farmer's salary goes into football.  Another illustration of why the Sun Belt and the MAC are mediocre at best in basketball...they are doing both big time football and basketball and the resources get spread too thin.  This doesn't happen in the West Coast Conference and the Missouri Valley and the Horizon.

Paul to Illinois.

Groce has done some shopping this spring.  He also picked up Aaron Cosby, a 6-2 Soph.guard from Seton Hall and Jon Ekey, a 6-7 Jr. forward from Illinois St.

I very much agree with you on this Jeff.

Or maybe it went into the millions that WMU spends on hockey? Which isn't even a MAC sport. The fact is that there is nothing stopping schools from funding basketball (or any sport) as big as they want. We've seen Ohio and Akron step up. Toledo even hired a coach away from the Horizon League.

I see you left out the CAA. I'm sure it was an oversight on your part.

I also don't believe $50K keeps Farmer at WMU. You think Dustin Ford would have stayed as an assistant in Athens for the same salary he's getting at Illinois?
