Graduation has come...anyone know the status of Coop, Reg, and Ivo?

Ivo, Nick and David walked today.
so will Nick stay?

To clarify, he mean's Nick Goff, who is moving on.

Hopefully DJ & Reggie are working towards it with summer or something, but if not...I would think 2 non-graduates will end up costing us a scholarship at some point.

Remember, just because they didn't walk did not mean they didn't graduate.

Oh for goodness sake......DJ said in the Athens paper his mom would just have to accept that he was not going to graduate...that he was going to do what he could to get his basketball career to the next level.  WHy indulge in this? Sorry, I already know that you are going to say "it's a fact" but what exactly is the intention of putting it up there? You know DJ did not have the required credits to graduate. Good chances that he will finish it in the allowed 5 but he is did not have the credits. So is the intent to mislead a casual visitor to the board or a fan who comes here looking for actual information ...or just to throw the red herring out and create the idea that he might have graduated and just not walked?

Quite a few people actually come here to get real information on the kids they invest hard earned dollars and become fans of.....let's at least give them that.

I know but also severely doubt that would be the case.

Re: APR and non-graduation.....Doesn't it only tag you if the players are in poor academic standing when they leave? It seems like I read that somewhere, in regards to Kentucky bringing in 5 one-and-done players every year.

So if the only issue was credits, not GPA, we wouldn't be at risk of losing a scholarship, right?

Academic progress is the measurable. Making sure they have made the appropriate strides toward the degree in the appropriate time span. I suppose it does not matter the GPA as long as you pass the courses and are on course for your degree.

Calipari and the CATS program pushes those kids....even a marginal HS student like Marques Teague excelled with individual tutors and was in good academic standing when he left.

You can also walk without graduating.  As long as you are within a class or two.

No, what I'm going to say is that I did not know that, that I did not mean to mislead, and that I wasn't assuming anything one way or the other about whether they graduated. Sorry for my harm to this thread.

I like this exchange:

Reporter: "When do you think you’ll finish your degree?"
Cooper:  “Just because of the busy schedule, probably be in the summer.”

I'm not particularly fond on of this one:

Reporter: "How do you compare to the other Ohio all-time greats?"
Cooper: “I would say I’m one of the best, if not the best, if I had to say.”

Reporter: "Who is your all-time Ohio starting five?
Cooper: “Me at the point. Who at the 2 (shooting guard)? Probably Armon Bassett at the 2,” Cooper said. “Gary, big Gary (Trent). Brandon Hunter. And what’s the white guy’s name?”

Reporter: Dave Jamerson?
Cooper: “Yeah, Dave Jamerson.”

That's a little too much ego on the sleeve to suit me.  Also, his choices are just a little myopic in terms of time frame, but that's probably just a function of his youth.  What really surprises me about this is that I was always very impressed with his post-game interviews in which he usually demonstrated wisdom beyond his years.  He always sounded like a coach in his analysis of game situations.  This sounds immature by comparison.  Not a big deal, I still love DJ and everything he's done for old OHIO!  Please don't take these comments out of context.  I wish him all the best in his future endeavors!

He IS one of the best ever to play, if not the best. Why can't we let greatness acknowledge itself?

Because it's obnoxious.  Reminds me too much of Mohammed Ali (nee Cassius Clay): "I'm the greatest!" Give me the likes of Ernie Banks, Jackie Robinson or Tony Dungy.

Tony Dungy, the guy who tweeted a derogatory thing about Jason Collins before realizing he should probably delete it?

I LOL'd at this.

If I had my preference, my stars would be more humble publicly, saying things like "That's a tough one because of all the great players that have come thru Athens, I am just honored to be in the discussion."  Yeah it is dull, but it is as true as the statement he ended up making.  So to that point, I kind of see where OCF is coming from.

But when they acknowledge their own greatness, it doesn't really bother me either, especially when it is true.  And while DJ's confidence has always been apparent, he never really came off as overly cocky and/or disrespectful to teammates in any interviews before.

That may be, but I've never heard him be self aggrandizing.

OK, but would you agree that it isn't always obnoxious, that it can depend on how it is said? I don't know how DJ said what he said, but I'd be surprised if he said Ali-style. To compare, Roger Federer talks a lot about how good he is, but he finds a way to do it without coming off like a jerk. Conversely, Rafa Nadal talks so much about how he's not that good it annoys me.

Yes, I can agree that there are degrees of self aggrandizement and that some ways of talking about your own fine attributes are less off-putting than others.  I hope that when I personally get in this mode (seldom in a sports context) that I find myself in the former category and not the latter.

yeah - "reporter" should have said "You mean the guy that got a lot of outside deep open shots because of Snoopy Graham's offensive aggressiveness inside?"

I loved Snoopy; however, DJ dropped 30 a game the year he played without Snoopy!

I said it in the Ivo thread and I'll say it again: it's silly to me that anyone would care what a 22 year old college student would say.
