I didn't like it before when the MAC sent the #1 and #2 seeds to the semis. It just didn't seem like a legit tournament. And that's why they quit doing it.

Another option would be: all teams get in the NCAA and the conference tournaments are eliminated.

Honestly, I don't know what the best format is now.
Since the regular season doesn't matter, the idea you proposed above Jeff, isn't a bad one. Many states permit all HS teams to participate in sectional tournaments no matter what the record is. Permit all teams in the NCAA tourney and begin a week or so earlier.

With all the changes taking place and the NIL deals, maybe another tournament will appear to replace the NIT.

Now is the time we invest to move to the ACC, or SEC. Build a new arena, and football stadium and go get that money!
Pretty funny! It’s all about the money and nobody likes to watch the mid majors.
This is may not be exactly true. In the NCAA tournament nearly everyone roots for the underdog all time, except the fans of the favorite or those who have big bets on the favorite. Any reason that this would not hold true in the NIT -- G5 vs. P6? You'd think that most casual fans who tuned in would be rooting for the G5 school in such a match up.
Maybe in theory, but when's the last time you bought into a bracket pool for the NIT at the office? Yeah, me neither.
