Did something happen to Brandon? Boals posted on IG a few minutes ago in his story and makes it seem like Hunter has passed. Anybody got any insight?

Boals' twiitter:

"Sad day for Bobcat Nation. Brandon Hunter, Gone way too soon. One of the best to ever put on the green and white. #RIP"

He was only 42. I wonder what happened.

So very sad. His style of play and intensity cemented my fandom freshman year and he absolutely set the standard that was carried eventually into that ’05 team.

Too soon.

I’m crushed by this news. Brandon’s last three years in Athens were my first three. Following those teams he starred on is what made me an OU basketball fan for life (and is still bringing me back to these boards now and then 20 years later).

A lighter memory: When I wrote for The Post, we arranged a game between the sports staff and the men’s team. We obviously got completely demolished, but my one shining moment came when I drove to the hoop and scored over Brandon. Did he let me score because his squad was winning by 50 and they felt bad for us? I mean, of course, but that didn’t stop me from telling anyone who would listen for years that I scored a basket over future NBA player Brandon Hunter when I was in college.

Really sad. He dominated that UNC team on the road, and those battles with Antonio Gates were some of the best Convo memories I have.

I think I also recall a double or triple OT win vs. Akron, and in my memory Hunter had a monster game. Anybody recall?

Edit: found it. It was 4OTs and Hunter had 30 and 26.

Brandon Hunter was well before my time, but I’ve always remembered him from seeing the highlights of that memorable North Carolina game. RIP.

This is terrible news.

No word on causes as of yet.

Many people associate their time in college or Athens with a specific player or era of the teams.

My father was at OU in the Jim Snyder/Bob Wren/Mike Schmidt era of the 60s.
My oldest brother was the Dave Jamerson/Snoopy Graham era.
My middle brother was the Gary Trent era.
I, was the Brandon Hunter era. We're the same age.

Remember the first time reading about him from Cincinnati Withrow and thinking he sounded like the next dominant big for the Cats following in Trent's footsteps. I even caught one of the Ohio All-Star games to see if the hype was real. It was and then some. Dude was a man at 18 before he even got to Athens.

He slid right into the starting lineup his freshman year, even with Sanjay Adell and Shaun Stonerook on that team, and never looked back.

Unfortunate that he never got to an NCAA but those Kent teams with Trevor Huffman and Antonio Gates and CMU teams with David Webber and Chris Kaman had a lot to do with it.

Gone way too soon.

So so sad to hear this. According to this article, Tim O’Shea shared on Facebook that he collapsed at a yoga class.

RIP to a Bobcat legend, truly a tragic loss. I unfortunately don't remember seeing him play as I was only 6 years old when he was in Athens but I've watched a ton of highlights as he was somebody I aspired to be like. He was definitely a big influence towards my love for Ohio athletics.

I received a notification about it from one of my board members this morning - I’m shocked and devastated - I’ve always seen highlights of him and he is clearly one of the greats and one of the best OU players to come out of the 2000’s - I need to get with my board and see what we can do about a tribute post for him.

This crushes me. B-Hunt was my guy and all-time favorite. I shared all 4 years in Athens with him, never missed a game. He was such a beast. I talked to him several times including just a few years ago, he was always such a nice guy and loved Athens. Big time player, a true travesty how much we underachieved as a team during his years. This is a tough pill to swallow.

I think he's deserving of rafter status and I know he wanted it badly.

Extremely sad news. He was one of best to ever wear the green and white on the hardwood. This comes on the heels of news of the death of an osteopathic college colleague yesterday.

If he's not, he 100% should be. It's actually crazy if he's not already.

Wow, this one hurts. My years in Athens were aligned to Brandon's and I was quite a fan. He and Flomo were quite a force and were incredibly fun to watch play. Far too young for such a fate. I hope the university is able to honor him appropriately.

Didn't he go to the NBA early? He might not have graduated. Which always runs into problems, cause they tie it to graduation still, correct?. Isn't that why it took Trent two decades + to get recognition? Why DJ will never get recognition?

He played four years. No idea if he actually graduated.

He 100% graduated on schedule, I gave him a high five that day and can still picture him in the cap and gown.
