This highlight video of Diante is sick. If I remember correctly, we got him right after Trent left and he was a very highly rated recruit. Maybe even the highest rated guy we've gotten in the last 20 years or so. He never quite lived up to the hype, but he was still my favorite player growing up.

From what I've heard about our new JUCO player Maurice Ndour, I think his physical build is similar to Flenorl's.

He was such a fun player to watch! Could you imagine if he was on last year's team? That was really what we were missing...a dominant force down low.

My memory ain't what it used to be but I certainly don't recall him being anywhere close to "dominant" during his time in Athens.

He was too scrawny to be a force anywhere.

I can only assume you are confusing Flenorl with Flomo (?).

OK, perhaps "force" was hyperbole. But still, he had some great explosiveness and athleticism. Never quite lived up the hype - but I'd take him any day.

Didn't Diante participate in the college dunk contest during Final 4 weekend his senior year?

That group (Fakhir/Adell/Flenorl) was weird. All of them were highly regarded recruits but it ended up leading to the worst season in Ohio history (97-98 I think). Its all made much more disappointing given that they all had such awesome names and were good dunkers. I blame Adell, that dude was trouble.

Ha, I played a few pickup games in Ping with Basra.  That was one solidly built dude.

Cory Reed was the third from Milwaukee, not Fakhir.

Paul ,
Just curious if you looked up Flenorl's career stats? I would be curious about his RPG and FG shooting pct.

Here are some of his stats:

Here is his Facebook page, complete with a photo of him dunking as a Bobcat:

It seems he last played pro ball in 2004 in Switzerland.

I grouped them together because they were all highly rated (I realize Fakhir was from Cleveland)...Reed was brought in (I believe) as a way of getting Flenorl to Athens.

Also, its funny to see the influence of the Fab 5 during that era. In that state finals game at the end of that video, all of those dudes have bald heads :)
