Goodman started this when he was over at FOx and continues it here on CBS.

I have seen this list grow from about 200 transfers to the point that it almost hit 500 players last season. That is 340 some D1 programs. Easy math.

It was alluded to on another thread but deserves to be said over and over...we have to do better at recruiting players to schools and not coaches. We can't have kids committing to schools sight unseen or listening to handlers and parents who have vested interests or other motives.

It is a waste. It is a complex issue with many facets. It needs to be looked at and dealt with.....soon.

Does anyone know what percentage of D-1 programs have had at least 1 or more players transfer out?

Here's a little analysis of the May 7 update. It would seem there will be another 75-100 eventually added to the list based on past years.

There are 376 players (1.08 per school) transferring (not including the 50 or so who transferred midseason).
Among those, 208 schools of 347 are represented (60 percent).

Schools with the most transferring out right now are Alabama State, 6; Hofstra, 5; Duquesne, 5; Rutgers, 5; San Jose State, 5; DePaul, 4; Green Bay, 4; Illinois, 4; Miami (Ohio), 4; Mount Saint Mary's, 4; South Carolina, 4; Tulane, 4; and UMBC, 4.

The schools with four or more transfers average 12.5 Division I wins last year, so mostly, they are not good teams, though there are exceptions such as Illinois. There seems to be a fairly equal breakdown between power conferences, mid-majors and low-majors.

The MAC's 12 schools have 16 players transferring, so that's 1.3 per team, just above average right now, although almost half of those are from conference's two worst teams. The only MAC schools without someone transferring are Bowling Green and Central Michigan, so 83.3 percent of the MAC has at least one transferring out at this point.

They had one I would have enjoyed having in Athens:  Austin Calhoun.  After that, I agree.

Back in the day, I would have taken Nate Thurmond and Howard Komives!

I know this is more of a list thread and not a discussion but this may be a good discussion.

Looking at the list it's interesting to me that nearly all transfers are moving what I would call "Down".  As far as the prestige level of their school.  Would anyone like to speculate why that is?

I assume it's a lack of play time and they want a bigger role.  Which is fine I guess but I wonder if that actually has any positive impact on their career.  Does anyone have any examples of how our starters have fared versus high majors bench players as far as opportunities beyond college?
