I heard we were very impressive, up double digits much of the game.  Ndour had 19, Rico 20. Ruled the boards.

Maybe this team is better than some people are thinking? But was this a serious scrimmage, or a "let's play all our players about equally to get experience" scrimmage?

Good shooting overall: 51% FG, 41% from 3, 78% FT

2 blocks each for Smith and Ndour

Pretty athletic starting front court with Hall, Smith, and Ndour

They were Big East officials.  The new rules have caused a dramatic increase in the number of fouls called. OU played  some zone and Xavier did not play any at all which helped to cause the imbalance in fouls.

I can't help but to notice that Bean had 8 shots vs. Stevie's 1, likely because Bean was given more playing time. Me things Bean starts at PG this year. Which is a shame, I really think Stevie could start at a lot of other schools.

Imbalance? Philmore shot 17 for X.  Overall fouls shot...42 to 49 looks pretty balanced to me....

What specific rules are lending themselves to the more frequent whistles?

Great for Rico - were close to his backyard - sounds like he was fired up

new block/ charge: Must be set before offensive player leaves feet.

Hand Check: Point of emphasis to get defensive players hands off of offensive player and open up the floor.

Not saying either had anything to do with today, just saying what points of emphasis are.

It will be interesting to see how the new rules work. Most coaches say it will be an adjustment for everyone - players, coaches and refs - through the non-conference slate, but by January, it will all seem normal. The rules obviously help offenses.

As for the game, beating Xavier is a good win out of a team with so many uncertainties. Based no what I've heard and this result, I think Ndour could be a first-team All-MAC player. If he is, that answers a big question for Ohio. Interesting to see former WMU player Matt Stainbrook starting for Xavier. I think for sure Willis will be the starting point guard as he was in this game but he's going to be a lot different than Cooper. The team as a whole will operate a lot different. Kellogg had a nice game (3-3, 8 points, 6 assists). Overall, the box score results look promising.

It may have had more to do with the fact that it appears that there were no foul outs since T.J. had 7 fouls and Ricardo had 6.  Love to see that we appeared to dominate the interior beating them in points in the paint and second chance points.

I'm guessing he means the new hand check rules. Teams will probably be in the bonus much sooner because of it.

Why is this a shame? If Bean is the better player, you start him. Stevie is a nice player, but I'm not convinced he's a 25+ minute guy from what I've seen the last 2 years.

I realize that you always start the better player. It's just a shame because Stevie is a quality player and person that deserves a shot at starting somewhere. I understand why he isn't going to start here, but boy will he be a clutch player off of OUr bench.

Yes, he was clutch a few times last year and he will continue to be an important part of the team .

Being a bench contributor in a place like OHIO can be more important to some people than being a starter at some other places. It just feels to me that  this is the right fit for him.

And if there was anything this sport (and this conference) need, it's more fouls!

TJ Hall may average as many fouls as minutes.  I hope he's moving his feet better this year, or he may be stuck on the pine for long stretches.

Valid concern. He has so much potential if he can stay on the floor.

All of this sounds very impressive to me.  Kind of excited to see what Year 2 of the JC era looks like.  Go OHIO!

Related to this -- given OUr length this year, anyone think there's a chance we see some 2-3 zone?
