Akron is no doubt the front-runner this year in the MAC.  However, part of me feels like this team is highly overrated..  They rely on the triple threat of Harney, Diggs, and Tree.  With a big ?  at Center now that Zeke is gone.  I was thinking Isaiah Johnson would step right in, but he didn't see any playing time tonight vs Coastal Carolina.  Instead it was Pat Forsythe getting 28 minutes of PT.  Forsythe has not impressed me once in his collegiate career.  As for Harney, to me he is a guy that shows a lot of potential, but that's all.  He is Akron's own Ivo Baltic.  Can't put it all together, but if he could...

Kretzer on the other hand is a different story and will give us many headaches in the next 3 years.  He should be a Bobcat and we will all surely be reminded of it at least twice a year.  So, I beg the question.  Is Akron for real this year?  Who do you see shutting down Tree?  Does our size give us a better shot at taking down the Kangaroos?  I'm not saying were any better than Akron, but we might match up better against them this year.

Don't believe the hype, they have no viable option at PG.

I like our matchup with Akron this year. Anyone have that NDour quote from last year regarding them?

I was at the Akron game last night and came away with mixed reviews.  Take this for what you will, as it was only one game, but:
  • We all know Treadwell is a good player, but after watching him last night I'm hopeful Ndour can handle him. I was surprised how much he tried to take his man off the dribble.  He ended up 4-12 from the field.  I'm curious to se ehow he does against a team with a legit PF or C who can gaurd him without having to worry as much about the other big on the floor for Akron.
  • Diggs was coming off that season long suspension, and he was definitely rusty.  He came out over aggressive and picked up a charge on the first or second possession.  He seemed to force a lot of shots.  Played very good defense though. Finished with 14 points (6-13 shooting) 5 REB 4 STL and 6 TO
  • Harney played just as I would expect him to... inconsistently.  Looked great for stretches, then looked bad jacking up 3s for others.  For some reason he had Teal shoes / tape on that almost matched CCU's uniform accents.
  • Kretzer impressed me yet again with his play.  Solid player.
  • Their PG situation is certainly their weak spot.  Betancourt should be a backup, but hes forced to start. Nyles Evans played hard, dove on the floor for a few loose balls, ended with 1 PT, 4 REB, 2 AST, 3 STL in 20 mins.  Didn't really shoot enough to tell if he was just off or what.  Diggs also played the point a bit.
  • The one who surprised me the most was Forsythe.  He played very well especially early.  I'll be interested to see if he can keep it up.
As a team, I was surprised by all the 1:1 isolation they ran.  They only finished with 10 assists.  They also pressed at least 75% of the time.

Let's face it they will miss there starting C and PG from LY. In the college game the PG is the most important player.
They are not a lock for 1st in the East.

Kretzer was a no show and didn't even play much.....very odd.   PG issues were glaring...got some nice run from Johnson though.

They just have to learn to win ugly...gonna outrebound most opponents but the key for them is limiting turnovers.

Kretzer has back issues.  Guessing he was having tightness after the flight to West Coast.

Meh.  I figure this game doesn't tell us much about Akron.  They played at 3AM eastern time.  Good grief.  Why would you agree to that if you are Akron.  Ain't nobody watching, not even on the West Coast.

They won the MAC tourney without a PG last year.  I figure they can do it again.
