OU Post quotes Schaus as saying they hope to generate "several million dollars" and that "the revenue could also go toward facility renovations but will be focused toward academics.  We're actually targeting revenue that we receive from these projects for academics . . . Our goal is to apply the resources we get towards academic services."

Academics?!  Screw that!  JumboTron!  JumboTron!

There's plenty of space above the floor for one, it would be amazing.

Im hoping this is just some spin throw off the anti-athletics crowd. I want this money to go to the athletics only. Facility upgrades, travel costs, recruiting budgets etc.

Interestingly, the University just had an engineering firm come in to do a load test on the roof of the Convo to determine what weight it could bear. Regarding academics, the admin wants to build a student athlete academic center in the North opening of Peden.

Hmmmmm.  All this makes me wonder about the jumbotron possibilities.  My dad informally inquired about the missing international flags and was told that there was something "exciting" planned for the space.  But if a jumbotron is a reality, the money must not be coming from the naming rights.

I'd prefer 2 more modest Jumbotrons on each end, spanning the lighter green/steep portion of 2 sections on each end.  Wouldn't be losing many seats, and would be the worst seats in the house but best spot to view game info and videos.  I just feel like the lower bowl would have to slouch way down and look to the skies to see one dropped from the ceiling, and it'd haveto have 4 sides to appease everyone.

I've heard they're just going to put in new flags - similar to the graphics on the back of the press row.  Any scoreboard hanging is a long-term project at best.

If Holzer had the interest and the right money, we wouldn't have had to hire an outside firm to find partners.

Maybe yes, maybe no, if we are able to get multiple parties interested by using an outside firm they could end up bidding against each other.

Wouldn't athletics and the university be better served if this additional source of income was used to cover current deficit spending and not simply as a source for more spending?

Oh good. something else to make the stadium look more awkward and prevent a better renovation in the future.

Ohio Health just bought out O'Bleness and is now actively marketing in the region.  Keeps the word OHIO in the name of The Convo/Peden

That looks like its going to be it for Peden because they can't use university improvement funds to renovate like they can with the Convocation Center since it doubles for commencements. A 50 million dollar renovation where they turn the stadium seating into a box around the field is a pipe dream. They're doing the best they can to fill in open space inside the stadium with the limited funds.

There's nothing wrong with that at all.  Not as exciting as some might have hoped for, but it's not a bad start.

I think this is the ideal.  I've been reading posts all over the place about "Burrito Buggy Field", which is just nonsense.  What they need out of this is corporate money that flows down the road from Columbus ideally, or up the roads from Parkersburg/Charleston.   The Ohio Health Convocation Center would be a big, big deal.

I truly believe any money is better invested in The Convo first, before Peden.  I'm not opposed to an Academic Center at all, but I'd really, really like to see upgrades to the sound, lighting, and scoreboard systems in the Convo.  Oh, and green & white painted bathrooms and concourses for crying out loud.

Totally agree!  The Convo could use a little sprucing up, but after 40 plus years that's still a great facility and for my money, the best in the MAC.  With some refinement (and a new facility for practice courts, etc. but that's a discussion for another day) like a Jumbotron or some other type of hanging scoreboard, fancy hand dryers in the bathrooms (sorry, couldn't resist), the Convo can be one of the better basketball facilities in the country.

Peden on the other hand, yikes.  Love Peden Tower, otherwise the rest of that stadium's just old, dilapidated and not worth salvaging.

I love the idea of Ohio Health. The Ohio Health Convocation Center sounds good because it isn't so obviously corporate. It keeps Ohio in the name and has a nice ring to it. Reminds me of Great American Ballpark, where you could confuse it for a non-sponsored name.

Ohio Health Center is fitting for its West Green location near the medical school.

Then it's a done deal!  I'll call Jim and let him know so he can notify the consulting firm.

Apples, trail mix, and veggie smoothies at the concession stand? Well - that would actually be an improvement............

I will renew my suggestion of starting a fund raiser for the Convo to be renamed the BobcatAttack.com Forum.

I do like the Ohio Health ideas though.

I think it will definitely be Company X Convocation Center and maybe we could get a Company Y Field at Peden Stadium...

Possibilities?

OhioHealth
Cardinal Health
E.W. Scripps
Kroger
Nationwide
Wendy's
AEP
Cleveland Clinic
Bob Evans
Procter and Gamble
JP Morgan Chase

Others?

Harley Davidson, as their President and CEO, Keith Wandell, is an OHIO alumnus.

I do find the dichotomy of opinions here interesting, although it seems the pro-sponsorship group is outnumbering the con as time passes.

We have many here that feel we can compete at the highest levels in hoops, but believing we can do that without significant cash infusion beyond the student fees is Pollyanna at best.  The trip to Louisville for the season opener in football painted the future of top tier collegiate competition for me.  Multiple YUM sponsored sporting facilities, Papa Johns, and many private donor named facilities...I believe they were touting over $300MM in recent facility investments in support of just ICA in the last five years.  If you want to seriously compete on an annual basis with the Big Six in hoops, these types of things will have to happen.

Now perhaps you are happy with competing at our present level, which is a legitimate opinion, but the next level is not happening without far more than this.

And I'm 100% comfortable with the money going first to academic pursuits.  Let's just hope the revenue streams far exceed the costs for an academic center to permit upgrades to our present facilities.  Don't forget the Walter gift includes $2MM for upgrades to the Convo.  But a new practice gym for BB/VB would be a phenomenal asset.

The Peoples Bank would be an excellent strong regional partner.  Wendy's is to involved with the Buckeyes to have any interest.
