I think it was poor word choice. For example, Nick had a similar quote but it came off much better, finishing with "I prefer Athens" and had more of a "I wouldn't change a thing" tone while Setty's could be construed as him still wishing he were able to play for OSU. But whatever, not a big deal.

And seriously, that use of the apostrophe is atrocious.

Why do we care who he roots for?    We love to hold kids to standards that we had no hope of living up to ourselves.   This kid grew up a huge Ohio State fan.  So what?  When he was trying to pick a fight with Ohio State's big guy he sure didn't look like he was bleeding anything but green.  Stop trying to overanalyze every little thing.

Having grown up in Peebles, I can forgive his love for the buckeyes. O$U fandom is like a cult in Peebles, just like many small towns in Ohio. I took a lot of ribbing growing up for not being an O$U fan and I took even more ribbing when I openly rooted against them after going to OHIO.

Treg is a good guy and a good basketball player. He's only a freshman. I figure that by senior year he'll have forgotten all about the suckeyes.

He's not a freshman, he's a redshirt sophomore.

Oops. I actually knew that. Brain fart.

But it's his first year actually playing for the Bobcats, since he came from SIU and had to sit out a year.

He's from a Buckeye HUB if you will. And didn't come to Athens straight out of high school. The quote is fine IMO.

Now had he released a quote akin to this prior to Tuesday night's game, "I'm a Bobcat now, but it's going to be hard to put on this uniform and give my all against my beloved Buckeyes tonight"... THEN, I'd say we have a problem lol.

Just wish he would have used past tense

"Buckeye blood ran through my veins....Loved watching the Buckeyes."

FWIW, he tweeted the following after the game:

We almost made that comeback. Shout out to y'all are the best

The crazy thing is, a play here or there, and that game would have come down to the final possession.  I like Treg's intensity and he seems to be staying within his role, not trying to do too much or force anything.

He would think it was an inter-squad scrimmage.

What I find amusing, again, is that anyone would care what an 18 year old college kid would say.

You have an impressive ability to be condescending to both sides at once.

I was just thinking how 18 year olds don't give a crap about what old men hear or say....

OTOH....those 18 year olds are representing the U and are public figures. They reflect on the collective "we".....  I am sure when you put on the uniform you had an understanding of how you were to behave.

I find it amusing that you think that enough people care what you think about whether or not we care what an 18 year old thinks, that you would think to post it here.

I think; therefore, I am. So if I think not, am I not? I think not, don't you think?

I like what I have seen so far. Freshman mistakes to be sure but he is more aggressive than the guy who just left and does not make as many defensive gaffes that others had to pay for. Game is a lttle fast right now but in no way is Campbell a better alternative. SOme one needs to cut the yoke to that plow 33 is dragging up the court.

Treg is going to be good. Upside is great, good motor, room to improve decisions, hungry around the rim and very vocal on D. he'll be fine. The eyeball test says so.

I didn't know how to express it, but this is what I agree with.

I said an amazing amount of really cogent stuff when I was 18.

What you get from me now is just the lousy bottom of the barrel stuff...so, please refer back to my stuff from centuries ago when you want a top notch thought.

Thanks for the good laugh!  I needed it.  That's one of the things I like about BA.  Lot's of folks on here have good senses of humor.

Also, another poster, I think it was borna, said that kids know when they put on the uniform that they are representatives of the U.  Good point.  Made me think back to my days in the US Navy.  I certainly was very aware in those days that I wasn't just representing myself, but was an ambassador of the Navy and of the federal government.  This was true in the United States and even more so when I was in a foreign country.  The analogy here with scholarship athletes it appears to me is apt.

Don't really have a problem with his quote. Nick definitely framed his feelings better.

Borna, you are correct when you say they represent the university and what they say matters. I can't even imaging what it would be like to coach the kids today when they can pop anything out there on Twitter. However, what he said was silly and not worth condemning the kid or second guessing his motives. Some of you think you were the second coming of Aristotle at that age, so be it.
