Leaving home a day early because OHIO BASKETBALL! I should be finishing a six hour drive and heading straight to the Convo.

Weather forecast is partly cloudy and 41 degrees. Be careful for the melting snowdrifts running across your roadway of choice then freezing once sunlight subsides. It could get treacherous.

Evansville features numerous outstanding basketball players that will create matchup problems on both sides of the floor, as well as above and below the rim.

Peace, Love, and Cowbell, Y'all.

Seems like we should win by 10 or 15 at home.

Some of you may be too young to remember when the entire Evansville Basketball team was killed in a plane crash in 1977.

LOL...my buddy committed to going to this game with me before he found out it was up against OSU/Michigan game.  I sold him on being able to watch first half of that game before going to Ohio game and that OSU will probably be blowing out Michigan by then.

Seriously tough timing having on Thanksgiving weekend and during that other game, but looking forward to it.  Even with a very light crowd, I'll probably still have some overzealous student usher keep us from moving down to better seats.

86, thanks for posting that. I knew of the Marshall plane crash (even before the movie), but was not aware of this one.

I did notice ESPN's pick center says Ohio is 96% similar to the 2000 Xavier Musketeers.  Led by David West, X went 21-8 (12-4 in the A-10) that year.  They got an at-large bid that year as well.

I'm appreciative of the "overzealous" student ushers (even though I think they usually do a horrendous job). We pay good money for good seats...you shouldn't just be able to come down and sit in them. All the lower sections are sold out with folks who pay a donation on their seats. Even if I'm not there, I want my seats protected.

I remember the Evansville plane crash well as it was covered extensively in Dayton. Sophomore center Keith Moon (third from right in back row) was from Kettering. I saw him play twice for Fairmont West as my high school was part of the Western Ohio League back then -- Borna knows that league as his pops coached at Wayne. As Borna and Ted will tell you, Dayton is a basketball town. The 70s saw some very good talent come through the Miami Valley.

I don't remember every player from those days, but Keth Moon was around 6-8 and had that memorable rock drummer name. He had decent feet and shooting touch for a high school big, but his best basketball was in front of him. In high school, his length altered shots around the basket. I don't think he was recruited by UD and back then Wright State was Division 2.  His mom, Donna, was involved in civic activities and was later elected to the Montgomery County Commission. She served with distinction - a politician who knew how to get things done and respected people whose perspective was different than her own.

Here is a link to a longer story about the crash:

96% similar to 2000 X ---what does that mean?  How does one come up with such a strange/fringe analysis?

I will continue on with my analysis despite the emergence of my alter ego.

Very interesting stat sheet for Evansville.  Their guard Balentine, 6-2, averages 27 ppg.  He does it be taking advantage of the new rules and driving to the basket and getting to the line, where he is 55 of 60 on the year.  He also hits over 50% from three.  However, as a team, Evansville has only taken 71 threes out of 313 FG attempts.

They are shooting a torrid 76% from the line.  They get there a lot more than their opponents.   They are an average to below average rebounding team.  They have a great assist to turnover ratio.

Do we put Ric Johnson on Balentine and hope for the best?  That could be the key to this game, along with trying to outrebound them and get some offensive stickbacks like we did vs. Mercer.

How do we defend Balentine?  Interesting.

I think our zone will help contain Balentine.

I do most ticket scanning when i'm down in Athens. You guys should all come and say hi sometimes. I'm the 6'5 kid that weighs 165... im sometimes overzealous but most times i could care less. More fans makes me more happy.

It's a true luxury that the biggest concern right now is how this team gets out to a big lead, gives it up, and has to hold on for the win.

Today was the first live action (well, vidcast) that I've seen.  I was very impressed with the team play.  Very impressed.

I sense that we had a game plan and just executed it.

Love the ball movement by quick passing, no dribbles.  Love the effort on defense and effort on the boards.  Love the under control even when at a high pace.

John Smith--what a pleasure.

Hope Ndour heals quickly. Looked really bad. Sounds like it's a temporary setback. I can do without the second guessing about pulling him out though. Could've happened to anyone, and I can just imagine the knee-jerkers crying about Evansville mounting an amazing comeback with Nick/Mo/Jon/Ric/etc on the bench. Save it.

Besides that, a very complete game by the Bobcats. Defense was stellar, so fast on their feet today. Shots were falling, sure, but the passing seemed really great to get the shots we wanted.

Smallish crowd, but the entire place got into the "you came a loooooong way.... just to lose". Very in sync with the clapping, not just the O Zone. lol. Too funny.

And no clock malfunctions, right?!

On to the next one.

Edit: lot of communication on court this year. Seems more/better than last year.

And little bit of politicking today by UofE. I am always amazed about the guy (Balentine in this case), that during a free throw, chats with an official about how number XX is fouling him in this manner, and sure enough gets a call in the next minute or two. Not dissing him, we do it too. But just interesting. It works, can't blame them.

That went well today. Took the seat upgrade to the 110 seats and liked what I saw.
  • The guys hustled hard today and went after the boards with intensity.
  • So much balance today, 5-6 really good performances.
  • Jon Smith had an incredible run mid way thru the 1st half. He is playing with conviction this year. The same could be said for Rico.
  • Travis Wilkins had a quicker trigger today and I liked it. People are too quick to dismiss or forget his value to the team. Plus it is awesome to have a guy on the team with more of a receding hairline than me.
  • I'm still buying Bean, he has obviously elite skills in my eyes. Bean and Stevie an even 22 minutes, I like it. They both quarterbacked well today and I see no problem having them both in at the same time. They handle it well, look to drive or distribute and pull the trigger when the opportunity presents itself, why would you can be afraid to have 2 of those guys on the court at the same time.
  • Treg Setty 3 minutes, 4 fouls. Thats impressive.  On a related note, TJ played much more contained and didn't do the unneeded hacks or blocks today, which allowed more PT and a rhythm including some real nice plays. He did have 1 stupid block right in front of coach that made him shake his head.
  • Watching Ndour in pain on the floor was tough and scary. Forget the competitiveness of our team, you hate to see a kid have to worry about continuing to get his shot. I hope he doesn't miss much time. He is exactly the type of player we need to avoid a stumble at Oakland.
  • Mompremier looked like he was out to prove he could score, and he didn't...but there's something there and I want to see more.
  • Oh yeah, and Nick Kellogg is the man.
I will be real real excited if we can win out to UMass.

Make sure to remember to tip your ushers at Chri$tma$ time...they work hard to make sure your seats are unoccupied.
