What impressed me most about this game was the improvement shown by our perimeter players in stopping dribble penetration. We still have to get better, but numerous times we shut down their guards trying to penetrate into the paint or baseline. I realize that A&M isn't a very good Div. I team, but I think we have made some strides on defense.
I thought Ndour really turned up the intensity in the second half.
Meant to post this earlier. There was a short period of time in the middle of the second half where Ndour made two of the most outstanding plays I've seen in the Convo in quite sometime. On the first he put it into overdrive to get back and play D and not only cut off the guy driving but blocked his shot and kept it in play. A few minutes later he took the ball to the hoop on the offensive end in a move similar to what Ron Harper often did years ago. Unfortunately as posted earlier, it was pretty much a ho hum game and I'm not sure very many folks realized how great both of those plays were. in my mind, they were stand up and cheer moments. I can't wait to watch this guy for a few more years.
I told my wife, and anyone around me that would listen, that they would not see a much better Defensive play than the one referred to above. Somehow got back in front of the guy without fouling, maintained his position (and stayed on his feet) until just the right time and blocked the shot.. It was pretty amazing. I also like the occasional step in then slight fall back jump shot from 6 feet or so. Keeps the defense honest.
Also agree with the improvement on stopping the dribble penetration. There were a couple of quick guards on BAMA AM (as the scoreboard read) that were held in check better than in previous games.
The coaching staff was, once again, fully engaged in the game. Looks like a lot of communication going on and good use of "coaching opportunities" from where I sit.
