Over the weekend, someone mentioned to me that Jacy Sheldon is the top NIL recipient among female athletes at OSU. His question: "Do you think that will influence her brother's decisions as he emerges as an impact payer for the Bobcats?"

There’s always that possibility. However, there are multiple case studies of high earning non-p5 athletes who just do an outstanding job of positioning and branding themselves.

A qucik Look at Jacy’s IG — she has the luxury of being an OSU athlete, but she’s partnered with a few brands. If anything, he might learn how to successfully maximize NIL in the form of brand partnerships from her.

As big of a Sheldon fan as anyone, but let’s hold our horses about moving to a bigger program already. He’s not Dave Jamerson.

Correct.

I have many thoughts and anecdotes about this, but I will just say this...

If you're not influencing on the field, you're gonna have to influence in other ways. (Nothing against Sheldon, but he's a 6' 7th man at OU who is shooting 47% from the FT line. He's not Mark Sears.)

Just look at Caden Davis. Walk-On. Will never play a single down in his entire life. 50K+ followers. Documents every aspect of his life as an OSU football player. Has a deal with Gillette. I've heard it's the best a man can get.

Will Howard. Shiny New Toy. 35K followers.

Building your brand is a skill. You don't have to be Marvin Harrison to make a little coin. Sometimes you just need to put yourself out there. We're in the age of influencing. Influence.

NIL money is one factor in players' decisions but it's usually not the only factor and probably not the a major factor. It's probably a tiebreaker. I think most players still look at the coach, how the program is run, the amount of potential PT, the player's potential role on the team, facilities, and campus life. I think most players (and their parents) want a place where they can feel at home and be treated fairly.

This is probably true at the MAC level, but I'd be willing to bet NIL is top priority for some athletes with the movement we've seen lately at the power conference level.

Just stating what everyone else is thinking - Cute and charismatic girls score big in the NIL game. Even if Ajay blows up competitively, I am not sure the same NIL deals will flow his way.

Sheldon got 4 offers from mid majors out of school, has started a single game in 1.5 years, averages 11 mpg, and because he's had a good shooting stretch as our 7th man he's destined for big NIL money at Ohio State?

Color me skeptical.

That wasn't the claim. The question (not even a claim) was would he be motivated or enticed by NIL. That could look any number of different ways.

Do you not think it's implied by the question? Or is the question just about genetics, and whether the desire for NIL money runs in the family bloodline?

It was about him having familiarity and closeness to NIL success. Great joke about genetics, as though siblings or other close friends and family aren't influenced by each other.

Oh God, he's trying to sink his venom into me and hit me with a 47 post back and forth in which he breaks down how every word he said was in fact correct and proper while every word I said was a logical fallacy or improper representation of the facts. Must run!

Yes, I'm definitely the one of us that's trying to do something here, my man.

I still have no idea what the point of this thread is if the implication isn't that Sheldon is going to jump for NIL money. It's about whether he "might be enticed by NIL" money? How's that different? And where's this NIL money coming from?

Maybe he ends up getting NIL money at Ohio. Does anyone have any idea who currently is getting NIL money, from what source, and how much?

You trying to tell me you don't think the 12th man at OSU is swimming in a pool of gold coins like Scrooge McDuck?

Dude, this isn't a conversation about whether there are gold coins to swim in, it's a conversation about whether or not the fact that Sheldon's sister saw an episode of DuckTales means that Sheldon would be ENTICED by the idea of swimming in gold coins.

Very different. Try and keep up with the long, detailed conversation Andrew Ruck and I had entirely in his head.

If my sister, whom I beat 90 times out of 100 in the backyard, is banking $200K a year and all I'm getting are dusty coupons from Carol Lee Donuts and Silverball, I'm going to be looking around for a better situation.

Think this helps illustrate why so many folks here suspect there isn't a huge NIL market for Ajay quite yet.

Silverball? Is that the vape store across from the Community Center?

You're likely too young.

It was a pinball/video game arcade that served (bad) ice cream. Located roughly across from the diner on Court Street.

Too young? I wish.

There was some pinball place near the Court/Mill/State I went to a few times. I didn't know the name of it but I remember going there just as the snow from hell was about to start in early 1978 and watching people scurry around to get off the streets.

Angelo's on Union Street, the Campus Sundry, and The Pub all had pinball machines back in the 70s.

NIL is an equation. ( performance x influence ) x potential = $$$$

he currently scores low on the first two and the third factor would not generate much of an increase.
