For any of you who followed college basketball online in the pre-/early-Twitter era, Whelliston's The Mid-Majority was essential reading and incredibly influential in how we talk about mid-majors today. Particularly noteworthy were his travelogues where he would document his journey attending 80-100 mid-major games in a single season and his concept of The Red Line for classifying who is a mid and who isn't. I think some on this board have met him from his visits to Athens and I believe he created the Last Man contest (trying to go as long as possible without learning who won the Super Bowl) that JSF participated in.
https://www.whelliston.com speaks of him in past tense but I cannot find an obituary anywhere. He published a book as recently as last year, so his passing had to have been recent.
