Key Stats:
- 18 Turnovers
- 8 Assisted Baskets (94 Points Scored / 6 of 9 players were guards)
- Wiz - 2 Points, 0 Rebounds, 0 Assists, 0 Steals, 0 Blocks, 3 Turnovers, 1 Foul
- 60% from the FT Stripe on 25 Attempts
- Clayton 5 Blocks and 12 Rebounds - being forced to do way more than he is naturally capable.
- 27% on 33 Shots from behind the 3 Point Line

Technically this game should never be this close. Everything on paper looks pretty rough.

Onward.

Who was it on here before the Detroit Mercy game who said he expected AJ Brown and Elmore James to combined for 40-50 pts a night?

Since then? A combined 12 pts on 4 of 19 shooting in win v. Detroit. Followed by going a combined 6 of 16 against GWU for 17 points in a game with 10 extra minutes of play.
They both could be together averaging 40-50 pts but since we have a two score first upperclassman guards that will never happen unfortunately. Shooting 9-22 and 8-15 is a recipe for disaster no ball movement

The starters were slightly worse (AJ Sheldon came off the bench and hit 2 of his 3 attempts from behind the arc), making 7 of 28 for 25%.

Fun game to be at. Environment was so compact it was like an intense AAU game hearing everything between players and fans. Until I saw the box score, I didn’t realize Bishop had 28 points. For sure thought Buchanan did. Really impressed by GW’s two freshman.

If we don’t win the MAC, it’s not because we aren’t good enough, Wiz/lack of size, it’s free throws. A number of opportunities to win this at the line.

Wiz is Wiz at this point and going Jekyll and Hyde it. He’ll have ok games against lesser opponents and likely be less of a factor against better teams. Boals kept a short leash on him tonight. Hadaway gets a bit chippy — he tried to charge the court when EJ4 and (Edward’s I think?) rolled over onto each other. Lee Martin got in his face/held him back. Otherwise, I do love the intensity he plays with. I really liked the lineup featuring AJC, Ike, and Hadaway for size.

It’ll be nice to have Miles back and maybe, just maybe — IJ at some point. He’s a big kid. I do hope EJ4 and AJB are less passive moving forward. I’m not seeing it being a lack of touches issue. They haven’t been as aggressive driving to the basket like they did against Troy. When they’re slashing it seems to really open up the offense more.

The pieces are there, way to fight back. On to the next.

Fun fact: George Washington is the most expensive university in the United States.

Not even in the top 25

I know a lot of people probably are not watching on FLO, but for those who think The Whiz has improved...go back and watch the first half. The worst ball I’ve seen him play in a Bobcat uniform and that is saying something. He air-balled a lay-up.

Elmore and AJ were brutal. Not sure what is going on there, but we miss Miles when one of them is struggling and both of them are right now.

GW has size and length…I have no idea how we were 5 point favorites. Going to need to knock down 3s in second half to get back in it.
Not sure what is going on with Elmore. But his play hasn’t been there. He got burned for 3 made 3’s over him in the second OT.

AJB disappeared again.

Turning point…up 74-70 with 1:50 left…Hunter misses driving layup to go up six.

Free throws massive problem.

Miles Brown is missed.

Player of the game was AJ Clayton. He was a warrior and played tremendous defense.

And The Whiz should never see another second on the court. Give Hadaway his minutes…I don’t care. The Whiz cost us five possessions alone. I will never, ever understand how The Whiz can’t simply catch the ball. It’s costing us gentlemen. I’d rather play with only 4 guys on the court. Nobody has mastered the travel a foot away from the hoop like The Whiz. He can’t be back next year. I’m sure USC-Aiken has a spot for him.
And it’s sad we’ve gotten to the point where we believe an unproven Ezuma is head and shoulders better than The Whiz. I wish everyone could’ve watched yesterday’s first half. FJC31 is there…he knows The Whiz can’t play at this level. This will be a forever recruiting whiff for Boals and Company.

I really thought Wiz was turning into a serviceable 10-15 minute guy — at least defensively. Tough to coach up catching the ball and footing by now. He just has to be able to do it.

He presents a buyer beware for mid-majors looking to add height from P5 schools. In fairness, GW’s Auburn transfer wasn’t exactly a world beater and he saw his minutes diminish as the game went on as well. 6’11 and up guys are rare and extremely tough find to develop. If they do, they’re P5 caliber. If they don’t, they likely maintain the project status.

Hadaway looks closer to 6’8 than 6’7. If Clayton is out, I think we go “big” (I say that lightly) and bundle together Ike and Hadaway while keeping AJB and EJ4 both on the floor.

You get it and appreciate the insight from Nassau. So it sounds like Clayton is out? On FLO it looked like he could barely move at end of game and it made no sense why we would throw him an ally-oop with 12 seconds left on the throw in.

Any chance you can ask Boals why Ezuma made the trip and not in uniform when he is clearly healthy? Put an old Arkley press credential on…haha. If academics, like another poster stated, don’t ya have to earn a trip like this? IJ’s status on this team is beyond frustrating when you have a guy like The Whiz who can’t function as a division-one hoops player.

LOL. You post your usual negativity about Wiznitzer, fair enough. But then you feel the need to quote yourself not once, but twice with more negativity in the subsequent posts. He did NOT LOSE last night's game. If your posts would reflect "performance" versus "expectations" you'd be hammering some of the starting 5 regarding horrific FT shooting, pathetic defense and non-existent 3 point shooting.

This is my concern moving forward. Playing 4 guards at once for significant minutes means you're sacrificing an inside presence with . . .?

Having trouble reading? I guess you’ve missed my posts where I said AJB continues to disappear in stretches and him and Elmore have been brutal. And I discussed the horrible free throw shooting. Seriously, can you not read???

And The Whiz cost us five possessions in the first half. That right there is crucial when a game goes into OT.

I didn’t mean to imply AJC is out today; just meant when he’s subbed out it might make sense to give Hadaway/Ike combo a try over Wiz being the first off the bench.

In any case, we need to hit 3’s and free throws. That’s the real Achilles heal to this team imo.

I’m afraid to approach Boals after last night, haha. He was heated.

I only listened to the game. It just seemed to me like AJ, Brown, and James did not get nearly enough touches. The two guard seemed to dominate the ball. We need to share the ball more.
