Solid first half. Rambling thoughts — Selfless play among the guards was great. Defense into offense has been fantastic — we’ll need this. We’re noticeably more athletic — EJ4 and AJB the leading catalysts. Jaylin isn’t forcing shots like he was last year; and isn’t pressing even though he’s not scoring. That’s leadership.

Would like to see more of Hadaway, he looks like he’s bulked up. Surprised we haven’t seen more of Ike. Wiz still has Wiz moments; but, he doesn’t look as bad as last season. Clayton not living behind the arc has been a positive.

The Whiz vs Troy: Points/Rebounds/Fouls (Over/Under is set at 7 1/2.....I'll say under 7 1/2. If The Whiz doesn't get whistled for a moving screen, we have a chance to hit it).
So the total of those 3? This confuses me adding 2 positives with 1 negative. I will definitely say over, only because I expect a minimum of 4 fouls every time he steps on the court. Final line - 5 fouls, 4 points, 3 rebounds, 2 turnovers, 0 assists.

The Aj's (AJ, AJ Ajai) averaged 19.3 pts last year. Over/under - 27 tonight.
I'll take the over here, although 27 is pretty high. I am high on the AJs, hopeful Clayton will add a lot of points in the paint.
Andrew...sorry about that with The Whiz prop. Yes...the total of those three: Points/Rebounds/Fouls. Keeping assists and turnovers out of The Whiz prop for tonight. The season is young.....I'll mix up the categories moving forward.
should look at points plus boards minus fouls and turnovers.

I get we are perimeter oriented, but a bit too much dribbling. Let’s move the ball.

As far as the Aj's go...I'll go over 27.

AJ's already with 28

It’s a bit surprising for a team that doesn’t have a lot of length. I thought Hadaway looked solid tonight. Have to think the two of them will continue to carve out more time.

Three point shooting was rough. Wiz actually looked formidable in the second half. AJB and EJ4 — my god those two are fun to watch.

And yes, I quoted my own post.

Love to see the Elmore AJB Show, but very balanced among the rest. Decent game from G Wiz, as well. The only 7-footer in history that never finds himself open for a put-back, but I'm not mad about 7 boards and 1-1 shooting. Need more from AJC/Aiden/Cornish moving forward.

The Whiz vs Troy: Points/Rebounds/Fouls (Over/Under is set at 7 1/2.....I'll say under 7 1/2. If The Whiz doesn't get whistled for a moving screen, we have a chance to hit it).
Kudos to The Whiz.

4 points
7 rebounds
2 fouls

For a very productive 13 and well above the projected O/U. He also set a solid screen and didn't commit a moving screen. Easily one of his two top performances in a Bobcat uniform. We would sign up for this every game. Keep it going Whiz.

Other thoughts....Hunter way off...hopefully that means the ball goes in on Saturday.
I LOVE Mitchell. Instant spark plug off the bench.
AJ Brown...smooth...think he got a little tired at end. 1-5 from free throw line. That won't ever happen again.
Elmore...baby bull does what baby bull does.
Miles..something was bothering him...on a bike most of the game...hopeflly good to go full-strength Saturday.
AJ Clayton...seemed committed to staying down low as much as he could. Only one 3 point shot attempted. Liked the discipline.
Hadaway...still a big question mark. Still very chaotic on the floor and no shooting touch. Carry over from last season.
Sheldon....put some more muscle on. I need to see him play more games to see if he's improved.
Cornish...incomplete. Looked timid...very timid.
CELLIS....shout-out my man. The losing team...winning team was loud and done at the right time.

All in all..win by 18 with Hunter playing perhaps the worst game of his Bobcat career. We were aided by 32 foul shots. Going to be very difficult Saturday in Cleveland, but glad to get this first one out of the way with a "W".

Yessir! Tried to get everyone loud as heck in the second half. Whole bunch of sitters which kind of upset me but me and a group of others were being loud. Got on TV apparently with my green and white D-Lo face paint. Another fun night in the Convo! Let’s keep it up!!!!

Agree - plus he had 2 blocks - and (not sure) 0 turnovers. - 13 plusses and 2 minus = 11

If he can get to 10 (plusses over minus) - very solid

points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks minus fouls, turnovers (offensive fouls count as minus 2)

Cleve St over under?

This is technically Ike's freshman year. He has not had minutes at Maryland so he may take time. Had a nice pull up jumper off dribble that just rimmed out.

Not too shabby, I'll certainly take it.i like how Mitchell fell into his role immediately. It sure would have been nice to see a bit more from Cornish. I hope all is well going forward. The guards were solid, and maintained when it mattered. IMO we were fortunate they didn't have a solid big.. that's my biggest concern in the future. Foul trouble, stamina etc. My biggest plus was to see a great student section turnout! That was great. It helps having a pretty good football team to have some of those kids roll into basketball season. It does.

Yea, I’ll take that Wiz performance all day. AJC could still be a little more physical and I’d like to see more rebounds out of him (4); but, the fact he only took one 3pt attempt is a huge step in the right direction. I think Fear’s assessment on Ike is accurate, just a little hesitant and timid but that should fade with more repetition. Hadaway’s athleticism is up there; you can tell he so badly wants to be an integral part of this.

For all the concern we had coming into this with our size; it’s still a work in progress but I’m less concerned after last night.

Good start. I really really like our starting 5. Forced a bunch of turnovers and scored well despite being pretty poopy from 3 (28%) namely because of Hunter & Mitchell. I think the calls went our way, and they had a bunch of in and out 3 pointers. Flip those 2 things and it would've been uncomfortably close.

Mitchell is suffocating on defense, insanely aggressive which at least last night yielded many fouls. Fouled out in 17 minutes. I like this role for him, go in and shake things up and don't be afraid of fouls as you're only expected for about 20 mins per game. I thought he was too quick to shoot but also had some nice assists.

AJB & EJ4 were fantastic...love their scoring ability. Happy to see them both as bonified starter / 30+ min guys now. They could be the key to this being a special team if they continue to develop and become all-MAC like performers.

I've been preaching Clayton in the paint for a year now...he does a lot better there than many of you give him credit for. He has good ups, good positioning and and timing. Boals split Clayton & Wiz almost exactly last night, just like he did with Wiz & Dwight last year. Only 23 mins for Clayton but he was in a little foul trouble early...I am hoping the split is more like 30/10.

Sorry I am not praising Wiz (shocker). His rebounds were simple. He had at least 2 he totally whiffed on, one he got manhandled by a much smaller dude in a much worse position who got a put-back bucket. He had 2 fouls but should have had 4. His one basket was awkward if not terrifying. I could be wrong but I feel like our +/- was much better with Clayton than Wiz. He didn't have a bad game but still looked like the same player to me, but with a headband.

Cornish didn't really get a chance to do much, will wait to see more from him down the road.

Take out AJB's 1 for 5 and we were 26 for 27 from the line. Damn.

We were outrebounded 40 to 32. And that is with Miles, Elmore and others having a few really nice hard fought rebounds. This will be a challenging area for us this season.

Why did the Ohio bench have like 48 people on it? Was there like 10 trainers, and will it be like that all year? I thought it looked silly how we wrapped around the baseline with chairs.

I was pleasantly surprised and my predication was completely wrong. This team looked like its picked up right where we left off. Interesting that we struggled to score against a D3 opponent but seemed to have no issues with Troy, was expecting a score something like 69-62.

We clearly have much more talent than Troy, I'll make another prediction that they will finish with under 15 wins, I didn't see a lot there other than Spudd Eugene.

The combo of AJB and EJ4 is deadly, I'm very excited to see them against better competition.

That first half defense was tremendous. Now, I only was able to start watching at the 13 minute mark or so and Boals presser said the defense was slow to start. But I can remember only one sequence where Troy's half court set worked us out of position and one other sequence that was chaotic and ended up with a tough three. Everything else was met with the right rotation and every shot was challenged. That lagged a bit in the second half, but good film work and adjustments can keep that going.

Only seven turnovers suffered and three of them were TEAM turnovers (shot clock, etc). That's what pops off the box score the most for me. That was a legit full court press Troy put on us and we seemed to make the right decisions and executions all game.

Shereef's on ball defense broke a dribbler's ankles. That was really cool.

Boals was asked directly about IJ in the postgame presser and gave a little bit of an evasive answer, but if it were an injury, I trust he'd say it's an injury. Sounds like some business IJ has to handle in some way. That's the one thing that has me biting my nails on the season. FAU just went to the Final Four playing only two bigs in their rotation, but we're on thin ice if AJC or Gabe goes down if IJ isn't available.

On the flip side of that coin, we shot 32 free throws and 25 of them were shot by guards. Any position can get to the line, and any player can be a good free throw shooter, but I'm much more trusting of a guard to make them. The referees were whistle happy last night, but having five guards who can get to the line is a place that will probably win us a share of games this season.

I can't remember who it was but there was a coach who always said he likes his chances of winning when his best players play more minutes than the other team's best players. On that note, EJ played 35 minutes, AJB played 31 and Hunter 31 vs. Troy. I, for one, wouldn't mind seeing this all year.

Our 3 bigs (AJC, Wiz, Hadaway) were perfect (5 for 5) from inside the 3-point line, 0-3 from beyond, FWIW.

No stats to back this up, but I kind of remember Hunter not impressing me with his shot for the first month or two last year. Then he went on a tear when he seemingly made all of his shots. He was obviously off last night but I'm confident with his shot. . . as long as its within the team structure.

Wondering if Alan Swank was in the house last night. It wasn't a Tuesday night. And the high school basketball season hasn't started yet even if it was. And no cover band was playing Mem Aud last night to the best of my knowledge.

Will be rooting for Kent (and SBH's favorite coach) tonight against James Madison in the 2nd game of the MAC v. Sun Belt challenge. Should be a great matchup.

Absolutely correct. I'm confident he'll find his stroke much quicker than he did last year. One thing that can't be overlooked is how many times Dwight would be double-teamed and he'd kick it to Jaylin for an open look. We don't have that component offensively this year.

NBA teams have about a dozen coaches but use a second row to seat them all. Ohio seems to have that many student trainers but extend the bench around the baseline. Was like that last year.

I wouldn't go that far. In November/December...you are going to see coaches give more guys a run. But once conference play begins, the rotation tightens up significantly. I think Sheldon and Hadaway have serious work to do if they want minutes come conference time. I know folks are high here on Hadaway and trust me, I want this kid to succeed. But right now I'm having Mason McMuarry flashbacks. I know it's not all about offense and he brings other intangibles to the table, but I swear the kid hasn't made a shot since knocking in his first three against Belmont last year and then taunting the student section. And when he does shoot, he's breaking backboards and not even close.
