The Cleveland game at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse is actually part of a doubleheader with Ohio State vs WVU being the other game. Those games should draw pretty well.
Nice, all of our alumni that claim to "like both teams" while in practice completely ignoring their actual school until March can tell people they went to an OU game.

I never really felt like anybody at OU cared about OSU basketball, or that there was any split loyalty there.

But there were unquestionably more OSU football fans than OU football fans, and on a Saturday afternoon way more people suggested watching "the Bucks" game than going to Peden. By like 10:1.

I know I'm not the first to think it...

Why couldn't this have been a small tournament?

Certainly not advocating a non-con schedule that features three P5 games per season, but there is no excuse to not schedule at least one of these games. None.
Continuing my above point.. especially when considering we have no P5 games. Even if we lose, we could've had a CHANCE (I'm embarrassed even typing this out loud) to play OSU or WVU - two teams that would be AWESOME to play.

Sorry fellas…to me this non-con schedule is a bust. Not one Power 5 team on the schedule. Very disappointing with how it all played out. Just don’t get it.
I actually like it more than last season’s; Michigan and Florida aside. I say that acknowledging I’m not sure why there isn’t a P5 game, considering we’ve had two in back-to-back seasons.

100% agree with this. We basically just showed up to work unshaved, hair a mess, and in sweat pants. Be better.
Not excited about this schedule at all. I can see why they were pushing for people to renew tickets early.
Why? If you're a season ticket holder, this is a relatively attractive slate. Six home games, five against D1s, three of them on Saturdays. All of those D1s have a pulse - it's not Maryland Eastern Shore. Aside from Purdue and a ranked UMass, what non conference opponent in recent memory moves the needle greater than what we have this year?

I get the disappointment of not having a P5 game; but a lot of us were applauding Toledo's non-conference a year ago that had no P5 opponents and all solid matchups against Mid-Major's/A10 schools.

I won't repeat the previous breakdowns of opponents, but ours is parallel to that this season. Two A10's, three 20+ win mid-majors, and an 18 win mid-major. Marshall lost its big three but still returns 2/5 top scorers. Even Cleveland State and Detroit added interesting/formidable combos of transfers and JUCO's (Toledo plays both Detroit and Marshall).

Outside of Defiance (really should have taken a P5 road game here); there isn't much of a cupcake on this schedule despite the lack of brand recognition. We'll be battle tested by the time MAC play rolls around.

I do have season tickets and haven't seen much of anything in years in the Convo. This lineup does not excite me and I do not care if they are on Saturdays as that does not matter to me since I live in the area. It is just weak.

Why not? We know some things

Home:
Youngstown State
Delaware
Detroit
Marshall - Saturday December 9 (confirmed by D1 Docket)
Sun Belt/MAC challenge - one game between 11/8-11/11. Based on previous year NET ranking. As it stands now, I predict this to be James Madison

Away:
Cleveland State?
Sun Belt/MAC challenge - Saturday 2/10. Based on live season NET ranking

Neutral:
Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship 11/24-26
Schedule will be fascinating next season. Boals can't use the excuse that nobody wants to play us anymore. Need at least one slam dunk top-25 team on the schedule. Would love to get games against mid-major schools like Charleston that won their conference year before.

Ball State became the fifth MAC school to get their non-conference schedule posted but also on their website is the first couple of MAC games. I don't know if that is a mistake or of it means the conference schedule is almost ready.

P5 scheduling data over last 33 years.

Ohio has had a P5 school on its hoops schedule every year except for 2004-05. But we ended up playing Florida in the NCAA tourney. So at least we have that. The last time we didn’t schedule a P5 school was 18 years ago.

I went all the way back to 1990. One time. Since 1990 we didn’t have a P5 school on the schedule. So I ask again what is the Boals mindset here? How can you not challenge your guys with at least one game against a P5 school? When all the schedules come out in the conference, I bet we are the only MAC school to not have a game against a P5 program.

We might very well win the conference and make the NCAA tournament, but the lack of a P5 school on the 2023-2024 schedule with this roster makes no sense.

Why do you keep using the term P5, when in basketball it's the P6. Or, do you just want to dis the Big East. I'm not against dissing the Big East, by the way.

Old football habit OCF.

Football season. P5 on the mind.

Good catch.

And the fact that I left out the Big East makes it even worse that we can't get a "P6" game. I'm amazed that all of these "P6" teams are afraid of a team that finished 5th in the MAC last season. #sarcasm

Looks like we've become the team nobody wants to play in December! frown

This is where the program needs a beat writer or journalism student to ask questions around topics like this and the portal. The only thing I can think of is wanting an even 6-6 home and away games. P5’s aren’t visiting, but it’s also pointless playing a D3 school and that’s where the swap should have been.

I still think we’ll all enjoy the quality of the games come season. However, I do agree with this roster it felt like a year where a non-conference win against a P5 (pending who) was doable.

Great point and it's one of the biggest pet peeves I have with the program. No beat writer to ask any difficult questions. Arkley went on twitter last week and said he's officially not covering the program anymore. Still think he could have made some decent side-hustle money if he charged for his coverage year in and year out. I would gladly pay a monthly subscription fee for year round Bobcats hoops coverage.

Who said public is unwilling? There’s no one even trying? And we’re a leading journalism school. The Post and WOUB barely cover the program. The athletic department should be pushing. More coverage to reach more alums and that could mean more donations. It’s quite remarkable that any significant news concerning the men’s hoops program comes from Bobcat Attack. Kudos to all on here. Our AD always preaches how “major” we are in a “mid-major” world. But when it comes to media coverage, we can't even crack class-A rookie ball.

I wish we had a "P" school on the schedule as well but I'm not crying about it.

The goal is win in Cleveland and hope for a good match-up in the tourney.

Scheduling a P doesn't really move that needle in any appreciable way. We'd have somewhere around a 20% chance of winning a game like that. And adding one P win to our resume increases our likelihood of an at-large by 0 unless it's a top 20 win (and then it's still small). Only thing it might do is bump our SoS enough to get one seed higher which doesn't always equate to a better draw.

Moral of the story is just win in Cleveland. Nothing else matters and Boals knows it. So schedule who you can and get some home games and collect some dubs.

Sad, but correct. Pad the schedule vs some cupcakes and take a 25-5 record into Cleveland. Everyone just wants the win column to look good for the papers and the next job, even Boals.

I just fear we're not getting any tough games to learn where our flaws are when your backs against the wall. Sure, Akron is always tough, but you learn a hell of a lot more about yourself when you're on the road at UK.

What was our record two seasons ago? Like 22-3? Beating up on the sisters school for the blind, only to finish the season 3-7.

We are playing some tough mid majors this year, not cup cakes. Honestly not sure what you're referring to, except for the Defiance game. We aren't playing any low majors like SWAC, MEAC, etc.

Jeff and I are the only ones aligned on this it seems. This is not as easy of a schedule as it appears at surface level. We’re in an era of CBB where you need to look at the rosters (transfer additions) and not the brand name itself.

A year ago we all would have been unimpressed with Kennesaw State and Louisiana on our schedule because of how meh both schools were two seasons ago. Both won 26 games and went to the dance with key contributors via the portal. Might I add both teams would have smoked us.

Conference schedule is out. It's a meh. Home Saturday games with students on campus are EMU, Miami (sibs weekend), and BG. None of those seem like slam dunks to be bumped to a Friday for TV. Two of those Saturdays look to be double headers with the women
