I find it so interesting that we hope and pray for some of these high profile guys to come in but over the last 10 years, two guys I really loved who stepped in from smaller programs and made big contributions were Tommy Schmock and Travis Wilkins. They weren't All-MAC guys but they could play. You look at recruits like Adelodun, Sheldon and even Clayton who are still developing and then you look at how Schmock came in and was a breath of fresh air or Wilkins who was the perfect sniper on those solid Christian teams. I equate them to Shumate from Toledo who started at a D-2. I think more looks at the guys who got away from D-1 than castoffs is needed.
Right now, we just have such a glaring hole in the paint. We need someone more proven than Wiz and more physical (and willing to play down low) than Clayton. That’s why we’re all hoping for one of these higher profile commodities.

Otherwise, I agree. I’ve said this going back to last year. D2 talent is a great way to supplement the roster and it would appear Boals is doing that between Sofield and Wells. The latter is intriguing, but I’d welcome either as a piece along with a big man.

Antoine Smith Jr - Columbus kid who played on a bad, bad Evansville team. Put up decent numbers though. I think he'd only be a one year rental though and he's bounced around a lot.

DW took Brauns to school but Brauns did rebound with some nice games including impressive double-doubles vs Drake and Illinois State.

However...if it came down to Brauns or Elijah Hutchins-Everette for the next post player of note to transfer in, the nod goes to EHE in a heartbeat.

While I think it’s a long shot; Josh Cohen follows both Lamar and Boals (among other coaches). Worth noting nonetheless.

Luke Bumbalough from Ball State is in the portal.

And Toledo just lost five players, mostly bench guys.

That probably just gives Toledo a chance to see where its mid-major recruiting muscles are right now.

Happened last year and Coach K replaced them with better players. All of the players in the portal this year were non-starters, although EJ Farmer became a valuable combo guard as the year progressed.

Sparks spent time in the portal last year, after a MAC Frosh of the Year season, before returning for first-year coach Lewis.

The Egyptian from Coastal Carolina seems to have actually played basketball in his college career, which is different than the bigs that end up in the portal from P5 schools.

That strikes me as good.

I feel like we should hire whatever assistant coach is recrtuiting these international players to Coastal Carolina. Remember Dibba, the 6’6 Swedish PG who visited us last transfer season?

Haven't read whole thread so apologies if it was already posted, but original post is missing two transfers from Fiami and one from WMU.

Miami:
Billy Smith and James Beck (to New Mexico State)

WMU:
Markeese Hastings

EMU and Ohio only two without any to date.

James Beck left Miami nearly a year ago and was on N. Mexico State's 2022-23 roster.

Same with GRAFZZ ^^.. It is really neat to take a backseat and watch the progression of NCAA BBall. Its reassuring in my opinion. NCAAFBL. will be small school/big school soon. oops, this is a transfer portal topic.. I just wonder if, during Euro trips, we can't "snag a U>19 big fella? I think overseas would be a neat option

Now beginning to wonder if Jaylin is going to end up in the portal. Contacted Rhode Island’s PG. Unless the starter job is open or about to be, I’m kinda scratching my head here — can’t see this guy taking a reserve role at mid-major level.

Rhode Island transfer Ishmael Leggett has heard from the following schools since entering the transfer portal, he tells @On3sports:

Arkansas

Boston College
Oklahoma
Minnesota
Ohio State
San Francisco
Vermont
Towson
Fordham
JMU
SMU
Charlotte
Ohio
Siena
William & Mary
