I think if they don't get anyone, bring Adelodun back. Dude is still out there for some reason. I just wish I knew what the knock against him was. He is athletic, looks strong, shoots the ball fairly well from what little sample size we have and played defense. Tell me he can't play for the Quinnipiacs of the world? So if we're sitting on a scholly anyways, bring him back. Seemed like a good character guy as well.
The guy had every ample opportunity to prove himself. It didn't work out. Should we bring back Mason Mac and EDoz as well?

If we can’t add a portal big, we save the schollie for next year.

I, and the stats, would disagree.

Career Shootiing Stats in 32 games, 142 minutes:
10/39 FG (25.6%)
5/18 2FG (27.8%)
5/21 3FG (23.8%)
2/6 FT (33.3%)

The guy can't cut it at this end of the floor at this level. Sorry, that's how it goes sometimes. Not sure how some people on here don't see this yet.

I wanted to make the comparison to Asown Sayles who was a much more impactful player in his third year (fourth if you account for his redshirt in 09), and say Olumide could still have an impact. But then how much of Asown's playing time came as a result of Marquis Horne leaving the program before the season even started and Steven Coleman breaking his hand? On top of that, we seem to have recruited over Olumide with the additions Hadaway, Nicol, and Cornish who each have more remaining eligibility. I think at least two of those players will have the expectation to give more this upcoming year than Olumide did last year.

With each passing week, it feels like we’re going to pocket that schollie.

Everything I heard from Boals at last night's Caravan event points to entering the new season with an open scholarship. Long live the Wiz.

A little bit of a letdown not to land a big. Still love the Ike and Shereer adds. Recruiting strategy surrounding bigs has to change moving forward since the portal isn’t going to be a viable option (without more $) for us.

His "game" should be so easy to fix.

Grab 1000 rebounds. Catch 1000 balls. Set 1000 screens. Shoot 0 times.

Whoever mans the paint has their work cut out for them. Hoping AJ is hungry after losing his starting spot and develops more of interior game. Have to think he’ll have every opportunity to start at the 5.

Keep trying. If at the end there's still no one, take a one year grad transfer risk-free even if he's not regular rotation good. At least have another practice body.

If we can't get a big that's good enough for the regular rotation, this would not be the first time we have only three usable bigs. But there is no Leon or Jerome on this roster. And if no one makes a big jump, we may not even have a Reggie or Devaughn. If that's the case, to accentuate strengths and depth, stay away from weaknesses, and reduce the chances of an injury where you're thin, maybe we see very very few instances where two of Wiz, Clayton, and IJ are on the floor together. Use Hadaway or Cornish as your second "height" guy.

How many fumbles out of bounds and illegal screen calls come from those 3,000 plays?

Also holding out hope they're still trying and agree there's no risk using the open schollie on a 1 year player.

Maybe my thinking is naive, but I've been envisioning lineups with 4 of AJB, Jaylin, Elmore, Miles, Shereef, and Ike at all times with one big. Keeps the bigs trio fresh and limits liability, while playing to our strength as constructed.

I could also see the scenario you alluded to with Hadaway (pending improvement) or Ike operating as the height and running on teams.

Well...well......well.

We have an important "big" development for 2024-2025 season...not 2023-2024 season.

Solid company in his top 4. I like it; pitch is the same — we have a PT available in the paint. Lee and 23 NBA Academy prospect Yaak Yaak follow each other. Maybe we’re just moving on from the portal for bigs? Keeping my fingers crossed.

We got 30 mins a game and P5 wings. Lets roll.

Pretty highly ranked 4* on ESPN + Rivals, 3* on 247.

Interesting tweet from Lamar.

Could we see this type of lineup?

Hunter
AJ
Miles
Ike
Elmore

Obviously rebounding will be an issue. I do think this staff would love to see Clayton take the next step and start from day one in November.

Maybe he's trying to tell us that Timmme has an extra covid year of eligibility and is headed to OHIO as a grad transfer.

The NBA draft is a joke. Yes I understand analytics and I understand projecting but the fact that none of Oscar Tshiebwe, Drew Timme, Adama Sanogo and Markquis Nowell got drafted is obscene. Trayce Jackson-Davis was an unguaranteed 2nd round afterthought.

Yet some dudes from Super Xtreme Ballerz who didn't even average 8 ppg went in the first round. Ridiculous.

But they are younger and shoot da 3 tho!

College and performance there is apparently completely meaningless now.

Do away with the 1 and done. Let these guys play in Bismarck North Dakota in front of empty stands or jump straight to the league. Do away with NIL. Get back to actual student athletics.

This is dumb.

I do think we've been overly obsessing about the lack of quality forwards on this roster. Of course, we'd all like to add one and it would make things easier moving forward but reading the tea leaves, it has appeared for a while that we were trending towards more small ball and position-less basketball.

Even the big men we were targeting in the portal were mostly unknown projects with potential outside of Myles Foster.

Let's hope Wiz, Clayton and IJ take some steps with their development and provide serviceable minutes. We don't need them to be stars in order to have a great team this year.

I don't follow. All of those bigs that didn't get drafted were 4 year college players. Isn't that the definition of "actual student athletics"? Instead of being upset the NBA doesn't value bigs who don't fit their game but are stars in college, why not figure out how to get more of those guys (like Timme, Tshiebwe, etc) to stick around for longer.

The NCAA should be optimizing around getting NCAA players to play in the NCAA as long as possible. Hell, if Timme and crew want to go to grad school and make more NIL money, why not give them additional eligibility? Seems in line with the idea of student athlete, right?

Those guys just don't have an NBA skill set. One and dones don't change the scouting report.

To an extent, I see your point. Players with multiple years of production are getting passed over, but I think you can also look at it the other way. If a guy is really producing in college, but stays in college, that could be a red flag that they can't necessarily cut it in the NBA athletically. I agree, guys like Timme and Tshiebwe had great careers, but obviously professional scouts from every team did not want to draft them. I watched a lot of the NBA playoffs, and the athletes at the forward spots are just nuts. Are there exceptions? Sure, but not that many. Tshiebwe is limited offensively, and I honestly don't think Timme would get many shots off cleanly in the paint in the NBA. Jackson-Davis is a skilled player, but nowhere near the caliber of athlete he'd likely be matching up with at the next level. Hunter Dickinson who transferred to Kansas is going to be in a similar spot, I think. He's skilled, he's large, but I think there's also a reason he's going into a 4th year of college basketball and not into the NBA.
