Additional insight from Pickerington event:

IJ was not hurt last year. He was redshirted for class management purposes. When I asked about his offensive skills, Boals replied, "Work in progress." Honestly, he was far more positive on Wiz -- said he has the skills but simply needs to slow down. Predicts he'll make significant progress over the summer.
I’m not going to say Wiz will ever be great but he’s certainly a D1 player and would have success in a smaller conference. At Ohio, he’ll be a rotational player who will hopefully become less of a detriment on the floor this year.
Respect the take...that's what this board is all about. And damn...I hope I am wrong about this, but up to this point, The Whiz isn't a D1 player and he'd have trouble finding success in the MEAC. Nobody can go into next season feeling good about the prospects of The Whiz being in the rotation.
Hahaha. You continually trash Wiznitzer, yet the guy you have worshipped, our head coach, has produced zilch to bring in a better big man. Anything more need be said? It's mid-May and the clock continues to tick.

And nobody can feel good about going into next season with no one recruited from the portal. Thus, if Wiz is on the floor next winter it's for a reason. Either he stepped up or Boals failed. Or both.
Jerry....good to see ya chime in on the portal thread. Just curious...are you still taking those "I love Saul" crazy pills? Are you still sending him Christmas cards?

For the record, I've only worshipped four people in my life: Dad, Tony Dorsett, Gary Trent and Scarlett Johansson. For a guy that you think I "worship", I sure do rip Boals a ton when it comes to in-game coaching decisions and for swings and misses on the recruiting trail. Everyone on this board knows I criticize Boals. Just like I criticized Larry, O'Shea, Groce, Christian and your boy Saul.

You are correct about one thing. If The Whiz is in the rotation next winter, Boals has failed big-time with recruiting this position. And I mean big-time. It's actually the smartest thing you've ever said on Bobcat Attack.

Enjoy your annual summer vacation with the Phillips family (I hear Aberdeen, SD is really nice between June 16-18). Go Northern State! I see the Wolves are killing it in the portal!
I smile, or actually laugh, when I see your posts full of so much anger and frustration. Just to set things straight .. I don't love Saul. I thought he was a good coach who had the misfortune of some significant injuries to players while here in Athens. He also was the kind of coach I like to see in the community. Not sure if Boals is still living in suburban Columbus or not but coaches like Nee and Saul certainly were positives locally I feel.

I "get" your frustration. A big man can't seem to attract a big man to play for him. Thus, your outbursts.

Sorry to disappoint you but my summer is in Maine.
I will put my money on Boals being an Ohio basketball alum as having a bigger impact on the Athens community than Saul ever did...no matter where Boals currently lives. Listen Jerry....I get it....I'm sorry that your former neighbor Saul is now residing back in North Dakota. That's a tough break, but maybe he'll come visit you in Maine this summer. You did forward Saul your Kennebunkport address correct?

And just to "set things straight"....I'm not angry and frustrated. In four years, Boals has an NCAA Tourney win and an NBA draft pick on his resume. Yes...he developed JP...not Saul. Remember, your boy Saul kept JP on the bench only to play behind another PG who every game shot 2-12 and committed 7 turnovers.

Keep rooting against Boals Jerry and ask yourself if Ohio basketball is better today than it was prior to Boals arrival? I'll hang up and listen.
I'll say 2 things and leave you be. I'll bet a lot of dollars I've contributed more to Ohio Athletics than you have, or ever will. Second, how many times did you play in the Convo in front of locals and students?

Deal with FACTS. Boals has been unable to recruit a BIG man. If you're proud of his recruits then we will have to agree to disagree.

FACTS are FACTS.

Hate to intrude into this lovely exchange....but it's actually South Dakota.
The intrusion is welcome Jeff...thanks for the correction. Sometimes it's hard for me to keep my Dakotas straight....kind of like Maine and New Hampshire. Great catch!
Almost as hard as differentiating between Ohio and Miami. More excuses .. Not unexpected.

Just a gut feeling, but Elmore's profile doesn't seem like someone who would leave as long as everything in our program is stable. I just don't see the angle.
I agree with that assumption. Out of those three, AJB was the one I circled that potentially could explore other options. He's a long way from home, I truly hope Athens has become his second hOUme like so many out of state kids before him.
AJB’s brother committed to Florida two days ago. For now, we can shelf the convo. However, this could be a reality this time next year.

Or the script is flipped and maybe AJ's brother transfers to OU after next season.

I had the same thought until it clicked for me that AJ's brother will still be in high school next season, so that is not likely. Can't transfer from Florida if he's never played for Florida...

A few of you still seem stuck in your obsession over bashing a former head coach, who along with his family, were lovely human beings. That you're still going there says loads more about you than it does about his lack of success during the last two years of his tenure here.

He left here over four years ago. Perhaps it's time to graduate to adulthood and move on?

Thanks for sharing. I've never spoken with AJ Brown, but I've watched him closely during games and warmups. Your conversation doesn't surprise me.

He has a high level of engagement and enthusiasm whether he's in the game or on the bench. He is a positive force, too, whether or not he/the team is playing well. Obviously a skilled player, he brings much more to the program. Players want to play with guys like him.

Can also say the times I've ran into him on campus I've found him to be very nice and excited for the future of playing here. He's always said hi whenever we cross paths on West Green. Super positive and funny guy - the freshman bunch are very close as a group and it makes me feel confident about the culture Boals / Lamar / Ness / Barlow are establishing.

I've never questioned Saul as a human being and family man. He just wasn't the right fit and he made poor decisions as a coach. What you have on here is an actual fan on this board questioning Boals loyalty to Athens and his University because he has a house in another city and doesn't want to pull his son out of school. If you ask me....that's being a pretty good damn family man as well.

I'll say 2 things and leave you be because you've gone down in flames in this thread. I'm not about to compare checking accounts with you. I'm proud of how much I love this program and how much money I contribute on a yearly basis to the men's basketball program. Second, I spent many nights/days inside the Convo supporting and cheering on this basketball program. Gary Trent even let me score a lay-up over him so that's cool. I know it's not like dunking over Ball State's Dan Palombizio like you did in 1986, but it will do.

On the recruiting trail, Boals has hit some homers and he has some whiffs. Hopefully, he gets it right with the incoming big man. But you have this weird obsession with Saul vs Boals that make many people on this board think that you want Boals to fail. I know it must hurt greatly that Boals took the program to an NCAA tournament and Saul didn't.

Take the "L" and move on Jerry.

Why?

Yes...idiots are always gonna say dumb stuff...but if anything this board shows recruits and parents this is the best fanbase in the MAC and the best team fan message board in the conference as well.
I'm guessing he did not like my upfront analysis of J Brown's background. We all know Jeff worries way too much (why else would he be scared of playing D3 schools) that is all a part of why we all love him.

Thought he was as good as committed to Illinois, but then he took visits to Michigan and Baylor. Still, I bet he's heading to Illinois, just playing all his cards, seeing what everyone is willing to give him.

Does Dennis have some ties to Illinois? At a glance, Michigan makes a lot of sense for him. They're losing Howard and Bufkin, so I'd think there's a great opportunity for Dennis to get major minutes at UM.

Interestingly enough, he visited Utah this week. A little bit of an outlier; but, agree he’s likely shopping himself around.

This may help his case, and could push UM after him harder. Some PT and probably a significant amount of NIL money just freed up at UM, with very few backup options left on the table for UM to go after. Dennis might be their best option at this point.
