Both of these guys look like semi-projects to me.
Additional insight from Pickerington event:
IJ was not hurt last year. He was redshirted for class management purposes. When I asked about his offensive skills, Boals replied, "Work in progress." Honestly, he was far more positive on Wiz -- said he has the skills but simply needs to slow down. Predicts he'll make significant progress over the summer.
A lot of you are going to disagree with this but Wiz does have some skills. He has some touch when he isn’t out of control and not completely incompetent.
His real issues are poor processing, bad body control and a lack of proper physicality. Big men take a long time to develop in the college game and are the biggest unknown when it comes to projects.
It’s rare for mid-majors to “hit” on 6-8, 6-9 big men because most of them are taken by the power programs. I’m not going to say Wiz will ever be great but he’s certainly a D1 player and would have success in a smaller conference. At Ohio, he’ll be a rotational player who will hopefully become less of a detriment on the floor this year.
All of that said, we’re probably going to have to settle for another project big man. Either way, this is a 20+ win, top 100 team in my opinion going into next season.
