I've seen the Cal Poly women play in person three times -- three losses, and I don't think they have a starter who would make the bench at OHIO. Any explanation, Dave, for why the women's team has been so bad over a rather extended stretch?
Yes, Dave, please do tell us.
What's a little thread drift among friends, old buddy?
I’m playing it straight.
Poly women’s basketball has had some good years but has struggled since their long-standing coach retired.
For a little insight, Cal Poly has some similarities to Ohio University. It is located in a similar sized community and has close to 22,000 students. A few years back OU’s retired president served 2 years here as an interim.
That said, the gym isn’t much bigger than the high school gyms in which I played in northeastern Ohio 50+ years ago. The men’s basketball team hasn’t been much good for the last 8 or 9 years. The Big West Conference is maybe close to the MAC in quality however. The big names are UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara and Long Beach State.
After some thought, I think Koroma would be a good addition to the Ohio team. He is a very good defender and has had some great scoring nights. However, though he hails from Sierra Leone, he has been in coastal California long enough to probably think twice about relocating to a colder climate in the foothills of Appalachia.
